I am the call for volunteers type of guy I always do a pretalk that explains what isd going to happen and I always have the line that I will not embarass anyone because I have been in that situation myself, I let them know I have been hypnotised before and that they will have a great time.

How often, what type of performances, what size events, and are you getting paid to perform? Just a few quick questions since you are offering an authoritive statement just since reading these. Are these the only training you've had? How long from reading these to performing? What is your background in hypnosis? |

Perhaps if you want novice posters (first post, no less) to reply, perhaps you need to change your style of interaction.

Too much style to be a stage hypnotist.

Question to Richard and Danny: You say you "promise" these things. What do you do when someone says they didn't have more fun or they don't feel like they've had eight hours of sleep? You will have broken your promise to them.

I tell them they will feel 100% better than they do right now. IF they don't then by the time they are back to their seats show is over and if they want to talk about a "broken promise" sure come up to me and we can talk.
If at the end of the show they are worried about that promise, I have failed in more ways than one. The LEAST of my worries would be the broken promise, the show would have failed so badly I would need a disguise to get out of the theater.

Earlier you quoted yourself as saying you "promise" them they will feel 100% better and now you just "tell them" they'll feel 100% better. Do you prefer one approach over the other? Do you randomly choose which language to use? I agree that the important part is entertainment, not promises. But I'm interested in seeing what others actually do. FYI, I don't make such promises. I don't tell people they'll feel "100% better," only that they'll "feel wonderful." Similarly, I don't use Richard's you'll "feel like you've had 8 hours of sleep" or "rest," only that you'll feel rested, refreshed, and ready to have a great day or evening (depending upon the time of the show). |
