I saw Derren Brown on video do a trick where spectator eliminates colors, suits, values etc. to get to one card which is prediction/force card. Is this trick in print -- does anyone have any info at all on this? There are no cards just there imagination that they are eliminating cards Thnx.

Not exactly sure by your description, but he has a section on Mental Forces explained on his video/DVD, "The Devil's Picturebook." Are you sure that he is not simply using equivoque? Do you have a link to the video you are referring to?

Thanks Magiguy that must be what I saw round my friends place years ago -- Derren was in a castle type place explainng his effects. Anyway I was told by an "old timer" (respect) that the trick is decades old but am wondering where it is published if anywhere. If its in an old book I already have then fine -- rather this then forking out on Derren's dvd.

Sounds, for sure, like the setting of his DVD. It's a bit harder to come by these days, but not impossible to find. Well worth the search.
On a side note, you might be interested in Dai Vernon's "Five Card Mental Force," from the Encyclopedia of Card Tricks (a book you're likely to already have on the shelf). |

The DVD is definitely worthwhile, it goes into detail on a number of effects of this kind.

I think your verbal force is from "Pure Effect". He has two verbal forces in there.
Have fun. |

The routine is called "Invisible Deal" and it can be found in the DVD "The Devil's Picturebook"

For over 15 years I have been using a simple equivoque, it came out of seeing Harry Lorayne do a multi card out force and I wanted it to be just one.
I am willing to share it since it uses common techniques of forcing and a verbal control of the entire performance. If interested in a one thought written and transmitted to your spectator, feel free to contact me at totallymentalproductions@gmail.com |

There are two effects like this on "Devil's Picture Book"
"Invisible Deal" has the spectator deal invisible cards onto the table, into two piles then they pick up one of the piles, and use those to repeat the process for a different elimination. spectator makes all of the decisions. Derren's prediction card is selected just past halfway throuh the process, and is then revealed to the spectator as they reveal the last card they got down to. very nice routine, I use it a lot when I don't have a deck of cards on me. (a card trick with no cards) the prediction can be written down instead of a real card pulled from the pack, at the same time as it would be normally. The other is "Mental Force" prediction/force is pulled/written before the effect is performed. spectator goes through dealing/thinking/choosing process until the only remaining card is the force card. the entire process is controlled, and influenced in subtle manners until the choice seems fair, but has been subliminaly directed to. Another good one but meeds MUCH more practice than the first. I used to do it all the time, and my accuracy was good, not perfect, but good enough to risk the performance. if you choose to do it WORK ALOT before you use it. -Nathan Himes Though on a side note. From the Devils Picture Book set, my favorite is "Zamiel's Rose" I love that one, I use it anytime I want a pretty woman fawning over me. though my wife doesn't like that.. lol. |
