Dear Devin Knight, happy 2010
It's a pleasure to have the chance to chat, I have a question, perhaps you can help? I have discovered through extensive research that you used to tour, under the name of Jason Michaels, and, that you used an approach best described by a quote you made when you stated "nothing I do is dependent upon the use of fraud, deception or trickery"*, (*something to that effect) I really admire you, and think its so exciting that you took that approach, BECAUSE, its the most difficult approach to pull off successfully. In taking that approach you were forced to perform under very difficult and challenging situations, for people, who may, or may not have had the objective of catching you out. My question is how you structured your performances, or, what your general strategic gameplan was prior to your performances while demonstrating in situations listed below. Demonstrating for sceptical reporters; For reporters, did you have a "reporter" effect list, of effects you knew would work well under those conditions, in that environment? How much leeway did you leave for improvisation? Did you improvise the entire demonstration? If not, what were your surefire/favorite demonstrations to perform for that style of audience? What had the most impact on the reporters you performed for? Do you have any tips for dealing with sceptics/reporters if your taking the "im real" approach? Demonstrations for scientists; I understand you had performed very successfully, more than a couple times, under controlled conditions, what was your gameplan going into the testing? Did you vary your effects according to the environment and the degree of rapport and/or trust you were able to establish with those in control of the testing? Was EVERYTHING improvised? If not, was there a basic template you used that you changed according to the situations, and if so, what were your favorite demonstrations that landed the most impact on all of the people who had the chance to witness your "psychic abilities" live? Do you have any tips on manipulating the environment of testing to your advantage? If so, would you be able to share some pointers? I thank you in advance for any reply you post! Sincerely, Stashu P.S. How does a fan go about getting a signed devin knight picture for his mentalism memorabilia collection, which currectly only consists of a signed Uri Geller picture and a signed bent spoon? |

Stashu,
Thanks for your detailed questions. I'm going to shock you by saying I DO NOT RECOMMEND that you play it for real. Yes I did for a few years and got away with it for a time. HOWEVER, if you did proper research you realized I was exposed. Virtually anyone who plays it for real will be exposed. I can not think of any so-called psychic who hasn't been exposed. In the long run it isn't worth it. If you are going to try it, perform under a different name, so when you are exposed you haven't ruin your reputation completely. It was many years after the psy-cop exposure before I could do shows again. I had to wait for my face and stage name to be forgotten. For several years I vanished off the face of the earth. My advice is to not play it for real. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't have played it for real. It was a major mistake. Hence I am sorry but I will not share my techniques for playing it for real. In the long run you will only hurt yourself and I don't want to be responsible for that. Devin |

I will say that something I used to fool scientists and skeptics was my Blindfolded Car. Such a feat appears to be impossible and unless you know the secret, which I only recently revealed, it could not be exposed as a trick. There is no trick to the car, no electronics and they can provide the paper. This convinced more than one reporter that I was the real thing.
