Bought the prop for a small junior magician.
Problem is that a vacuum often occurs between the glass and the load. And when that happens, the candy gets stuck and can't be produced. Any tricks out there for improving its workings?

Use candy without wrappers such as M&Ms or skittles. I found that using candy with wrappers causes it to bind up.

The problem at hand is not the candy, but the vacuum that prevents the load chamber from releasing from the actual glass. They stick, as a result, which they should not.

Hello Tod
It sounds like the problem might be unique to the model of the prop you have purchased. Is the glass plastic as well as the load gimmick? The older models utilized a fairly hefty genuine glass, glass. Perhaps you might have success replacing the outer "glass"--be it plastic or glass--with another... Julie |

I'm sorry I misunderstood. When lifting are you using 2 hands or 1? If you're trying to lift it off with 1 hand that could be a reason it's getting stuck. I use 2 hands to pull the cover off. My fingers are on the outside and my thumbs are on the inside holding the gimmick. That way when I lift it has an even pressure and doesn't stick.

The outer glass is plastic, not glass.
The tolerance (spacing) of the outer tube does not allow a two-handed/thumbed removal. I thougt of sanding the outside of the load chamber, to possible lower the vacuum between it an the (plastic) glass. Perhaps others have a better solution, however.

Do you mean you can't separate the two parts of the prop? If so, just make a small hole in the outer glass to release the vacuum. (No liquid is ever contained in this part of the prop). If you mean the candy sticks in the load chamber, then experiment with different types of candy.
Mine seems to work perfectly well, but I can imagine the vacuum thing being a problem. BTW, thanks for reminding me about this one, it's a great little effect I'd forgotten all about! Potty |

Two ideas. Just keep putting the load chamber and the glass together and taking them apart. Sometimes that works to losen up the fit. If that doesn't work, try using wax (magician's wax or bees wax) on the surfaces that touch each other. That will make it slide easier.
