Hi Craig,
There are many opinions on what sized coins to use. Quarters vs Half Dollar vs Dollar. Visibility, ability, size of the audience, size of the performers hands, even the size of the performer themselves have all been discussed. What are your thoughts and preferences? thanks, David |

Good question David.
I tend to use half dollars and dollars mainly. I prefer dollars when I know I am performing for a large group such as big tables in a corporate function or even parlor magic. I find that there are less visibility issues when using larger coins. When I am performing walk around a lot of the magic I perform happens in the spectator's hand. In this case I prefer to use half dollars as I never know the hand size of the audience. I was performing with dollars once and had a lady helping me. When I asked her to hold four dollars she just could not do it. As I perform for a lot of women I took this lesson on board and started using dollars more. If I am borrowing money to perform with I tend to use 10 pences (around the size of a quarter). There are certain moves that are easier with smaller coins (such as the Palm to Palm Change). This is another factor I take into consideration when selecting the coins to use. Craig |
