We are happy that Tom Stone has agreed to take time from his hectic
schedule in order to be a guest here at the Magic Café. Within a few days, Tom Stone will release his new book "Vortex" through Hermetic Press, and he is doing his second year as a columnist for Genii magazine. But what is his background? Tom Stone was born in 1967, on a farm at the rural west-coast of Sweden. The interest in magic arose at the age of 8, when he found an old book with a few chapters on conjuring, but it didn't become an obsession until age 14, when he saw Topper Martyn perform. When Tom was 15, he moved from the farm to study engineering, and around that same time he also found the Gothenburg Magic Club (which he joined), and met other members like Lennart Green, Max Milton, Dusenberg and other kind and skilled magicians. Within a few years, Tom became the editor for the magic club's magazine, the librarian and a few years later, the president. During that time, Tom abandoned the idea to become an engineer, and started to study graphic design instead and got involved with an amateur theater company, which eventually led to him writing and directing a play of his own. In 1990, Tom moved to Gothenburg and realized that he had become a professional artist. In 1992, he participated in a national TV-show (a quiz show for 12-year olds), where each week he made a trick that ended up as a geography question. The year after, he published his first booklet in English; "The Warpsmith's Toolbox" which got very good reviews in the trade magazines, and attracted the attention of book publisher Stephen Minch. In 1996, Tom moved to Malmö in the south of Sweden for a 2-year engagement at a show restaurant there. 3 spots a night, 5 nights a week. Very hectic and no room for finesse, so after the contract had ended in 1998, Tom joined up with his friend Peter Rosengren, and produced a small show that was intended as an antidote - no glitter or polished surfaces, just a low-tech, gritty and down-to-earth approach with a lot of personality and nuances - It got rave reviews in the culture pages. Then, In january 2000, Tom moved to Stockholm, where he still resides. There he started to ponder over a distribution system that was new to him - ebooks. And since 2002, he has published over 18 ebooks. Among those, an ebook on magic publishing, which you can download for free by Clicking Here!
