Hi all!
I was lucky enough to receive Distress call by the very creative Russell Andrews. The effect is a Phone effect, and a very good one to. In the effect, the spectator thinks of any card (free choice), and names it out loud. He then picks a contact from the magicians phone (free choice) and the magician phones that contact on loud speaker. The magician asks the contact to name a card, and the contact names the exact card that the spectator had named! 100% Hit rate. No Stooges. Free Choices. A truly brilliant and DEVILISHLY devious effect from Russell Andrews. I highly reccommend it! It can be bought at MagicShop.co.uk Best wishes, Kyle |

It is truly devishly brilliant. A VERY clever method behind it.

Can this principle be applied to numbers? For example, any random number between one and a thousand?

With a bit of work, it could be applied to anything.

Is a deck of cards needed for the routine supplied with the trick?

It seems I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I've been catching up on some older stuff by Rus Andrews ever since I bought his "Numbers" and added it to my arsenal.
I really like the principle behind Distress Call. It really made me smile and had me reaching to grab my mobile phone (cellphone) and play. I had to change a couple of display settings on my phone to present it perfectly, but I can't see it being an issue for any phone. Although it's presented here as one specific card plot, I can already see its application would be suited to any number of effects: Words, drawings, dates, numbers, anything really. I don't usually do phone effects, but this one is so easy to set up and perform, it will be my first. If you're a mentalist or a magician looking to introduce a phone effect into your act for the first time, to give it that "digital age" spin, you could really do a lot worse than having a look at this. Works as well for close-up as it does for stage and I'll definitely be doing a variation of it next time I'm on the radio. |
