I believe everyone knows by now that Lance Burton has left Las Vegas. Also in Vegas the only b/m magic store is in dire straits.
Southern California has just seen the closing of the Hollywood Magic Shop. There may still be some out there but their prices will be geared to the economy. If you go to Ebay you will see a lot of changes. U.S.sellers are disappearing. Some have turned into toy shops. New magic tricks are few and far between and cost more than I can spend anyway. Old inexpensive tricks are making a comeback and you have to watch out for more knock-offs. Meanwhile, on Ebay, the foreign market is doing fine. Many of the stores are now run from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. Why?? Because they are in the countries that make the magic tricks so it doesn't cost them as much and postage to the U.S. is cheaper. Right now we are riding the fence. I know personally that my shows have bottomed out because people are spending their money on 'luxuries' such as food and rent. What next, eh? David

Those are a few slaps actually...
On the same metaphoric sense... We'll just roll with the punches and ride the storm... It's always darkest just before dawn. There's always a silver lining. One day you open your eyes and the sun is shining. All the best,

I loved Hollywood Magic. I've had some good memories there. Also, it was the best magic shop in town if you wanted serious magic tricks. I haven't been there in years because I live in Vegas now. But, I hear that Denny and Lee's might close down. Oy vey, what next?

Life is constantly in a state of change or death. What is so new? Magic shops that do not grow and change die. Some may say it is about time.
I don't like to see them die off either, but again life has to move forward. We want to be taken seriously as an art form and move forward but want to cling to the past as well. Strange.

Hang in there, the economy should pick up shortly (IMO). My day job (industrial sales/service) is starting to take off and the economy usually lags about 6 months behind it. Hopefully a lot of hiring will take place once the November elections happen (regardless of outcome, it is the uncertainty that employers don't like).

Colon, Michigan still is the Magic Capital of the World. Two full time, brick and mortar, open daily to the public magic shops with large web catalogs ready to serve you. Support Michigan Magic!- Abbott's Magic and FAB Magic- we are so fortunate to have them both.

Yes it certainly is Roger..thanks for the plug. We are still on target to open three new branches in 2011 - we believe there IS a market for retail magic shops. I betting on it.
