I seem to have this strange desire to read the card college series. I've gone through royal road and expert card technique, am I missing something by not going through card college as well.
Another question would be, should I go through Erdnase next in my card magic studies? What do you all think? I know that there are some adamant fans of both of these series. I'm Just trying to make sure I have a good base before going on to more difficult things. |

If its only cards you just CANT go wrong with Hugard and Erdnase. It covers the basics and beyond. Card College , altough good, is a five part encyclopedic cardset which covers more (sometimes newer) moves. I think that if you practise the stuff from these 3 masters, you'll be well on your way to becoming a great "cardician".
May I recommend the Tarbell course also? |

Personally I would go through Card College first, and then go through Erdnase. You may be able to derive greater learning than if you do the reverse.

Othelo68: I am prejudiced of course, but if you want "a good base," there's nothing better than some of my stuff in some of my books. But, whaddo I know? HL.

Michiel- Thanks for the help. I have Tarbell's one and two slowly working through those as well. I'll admit I've been doing a bit of hopping around in regard to magical disciplines. I started out in coins working through Bobo's and expert coin magic (still working through the both from time to time.) Are there specific volumes of card college that have the "modern" sleights in them so I'm not needlessly duplicating things?
Harry Lorayne- your material is next! I've been hearing a lot about you. I listen to the magic newswire podcast and it seems that anyone who talks about card work at some time mentions your name. do you have a recommendation or should I get your classics collection? thanks everyone for your help! now off to the magic shop. |

Yes, I think my Classic Collection books would be your best bet. You might want to go to my magic website, the third one listed under this post, to see what's available, etc. Then, if you wish, you can email me directly (first email address listed under this post) with any questions. HL.
