Michael Rubinstein was born in NYC on Jan 11, 1956. His aunt bought him some magic tricks when he was 9, but it wasn't until someone showed him how to do the French Drop at age 15 that he began to take a serious interest in magic.

At the urging of a friend, he got his parents to buy him the Bobo Coin Magic book for his birthday. He read the book cover to cover, and began experimenting with the various techniques he learned in the book, developing his own unique moves and techniques in the process.

In 1977, Michael moved to Italy, in order to study Veterinary Medicine. It was there that he hooked up with the Italian Magic Organization, and began lecturing. Mr. Rubinstein's first book, Intermediate and advanced Coin Technique, came out in 1982 in English, Italian, and French. By then, with influences of David Roth and Michael Ammar, he had begun experimenting with the fingertip, retention and matting techniques that would eventually define his style.

In 1983 Michael won the close-up competition at the International Magic Congress in Bologna Italy, and followed that with first place in close-up at the 1984 International competition in St. Vincent.
During his 17 city European lecture tour in 1985, he met up with Sepp Holzer in Germany, and produced the classic Master Coin Tecnique Video series, that was later released by Videonics in the States.

One year later, the second series, Knockout Coin Magic, was produced in Canada with Videonics. Unlike most magicians of that time, these tapes contained mostly unpublished material, containing techniques and moves that were kept underground until their release.

Michael then took a step away from lecturing and performing once he began working in New York as a Veterinarian, and raising a family. However, Michael's coin magic continued to appear in various books and magazines, among them Apocalypse, Richard's Almanac, Magic Magazine, Ruminations, Best of Friends II, and Spectacle.

Michael Rubinstein will be appearing at the Las Vegas Coinvention (the first public appearance since a lecture in Madrid, Spain, in 1992). A new book, Major League Coin Magic, is on the horizon.
