I like that Carl Jung quote on the first link there, Dr Spektor:

Whilst I expect any response I make will have little impact, I'll press on. There seems to be this perception among the magic community that exposing Uri Geller is the only thing the JREF does, or has ever done. Where this idea has come from, I can't imagine. Whilst he is still a very rich man, Geller's career ended long ago, and he has pretty much become a laughing stock (did anyone else see the recent '8 Out Of 10 Cats' episode he appeared on?). The JREF's work extends far beyond psychics and spoon bending. They were heavily involved in the media campaign that saw an end to the supposed "bomb detection" dowsing rods being used by soldiers in Iraq http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/swif......ism.html ). They have supported and promoted the campaign for libel reform in the UK (http://www.libelreform.org/ ). They have gone out of their way to involve minority groups, particularly women, in the white male dominated area of skepticism. The JREF do good work, and they don't bother keeping track of the number of people they've "saved". That's not what it's about. If you think they're only about exposing magic secrets, as so many here seem to, then you're dead wrong. |

So do you Chris?
Simple question and it is the reason for the video. Is it wrong? Thanks, Jim

It is a small sample from an obviously larger lecture, and you know *** well that what you're claiming was not Randi's intention. You're taking advantage of a piece of footage that has been taken out of context, and using it to push your own theory/agenda. Show me the complete lecture, from start to finish, and then I'll tell you what I think. |

Not only does he admit to a felony but lets everyone know that if you go to a place that uses one of those pens you will get away with it. The video was made to push you guys to defend a felony with the hopes that when you found out the true intent you would look at it with clear eyes. Guess we shall see if it worked. Best Wishes, Jim

In reference to myself you said: "But instead in his inability to break out of the Randi mold of diminishing another performers work or presentation"
Say what, who did I do this to and in what context? Facts please, time, place, person anything would be nice.

Geller's career ended long ago, and he has pretty much become a laughing stock... Laughing all the way to the bank, maybe. An international celebrity known the world 'round who this year has popular TV shows in several countries around the world. That is some washed up career. More proof you are utterly clueless, Chris. |

Chris, Jims question does not necessarily refer to Randi's performance. He asked you generically if you think it is wrong to print money and show it off to kids during any kind of performance....you don't need to see an entire video to answer this question..

You got it Kam.
And also to show kids that said home made money would not be caught with the anti-fraud device many stores use to check for funny money. Jim

This is an ethical question. None of us know the LEGAL answer (until someone takes Randi to court), but we do know what's right and wrong (or at least we should if our parents did a good job lol) and so the ethical answer is clear as daylight to everyone but those with alternate agendas

I've been arguing about this topic with Jim for long enough to know that anything I say will get twisted to mean whatever he wants it to mean. Besides, I'm not the one supposed to be answering the questions. That's Jim's job. Wouldn't it be great to hear his response to Banachek's post? |
