Hi Kozmo,
I have been performing since last October and done about 10 full days around the UK in that time. I have mostly performed my side show act, but I have performed an adapted version building into a circle strait jacket circle routine finish. I have learnt a lot already. I got to a plateau where I felt I needed to re work what I had gone out with initially. Now I am working full time and saving funds for my act and studies. My question is did you come across similar stages when starting out where you identified changes that needed to be made? How did you do this? Do you think it is good to take a step back sometimes and script, design and apply the changes you want to make, or do you think making changes organically as you go is better? Thanks, Matt. |

Well in the beginning the curve is much steeper. You learn a lot fast then it slows down but thaats because you've improved. When you hit that spot the improvements are small but still very important.
As far as stepping back, No I don't. I think you have to work all the time because the audience is the only ones that can tell you whats right and wrong. Go out and work. |

Cheers Kozmo,
I'll be out tomorrow! I've been working as a street fundraiser for a week or so, 5 days a week 10-6. I don't know if you have them in America to the same extent that we do? Basically stopping people on the street, telling them about a charity, it's work and asking whether they will regularly donate from their bank account each month. It has shown me how quickly you can learn and progress in terms of pitching, stopping and closing. You might get rejected 200 times in a day BUT get three or four people to join up and start giving regularly. Tough Skin is built up quickly. If your willing to treat it like you would any other job 9-5 5 days a week, I can see how you can make a great living from performing on the street. |
