I'm wondering where the earliest reference to using a Mem deck with a D-backer to perform the Brainwave effect appeared in print- or who started it.
Does this go back a long way or is it a fairly recent idea? Anybody got any insight into where or how this developed?

There's an old issue, October 1959, of Hugard's Magic Monthly in which Fred Braue mentions using a D-backer and a Mem Deck together. In this one, the D-backer is set on the table, instead of being in the deck.
In that article, Fred Braue mentions that the idea of using this card in this way was originated by Frank Csuri. |

Thanks Scott, that's really good information.
I much appreciate your input. Anybody any references to where the idea of using the D-backer in the deck might be- either in print or in use. It begins to seem an obvious solution but I suspect it hasn't been around all that long. Can anybody correct me if I am wrong? Any leads anyone?
