At the age of almost 40 I'm now taking the time to learn trick roping. It sure takes a lot of time and sweat but I'm having fun with it. I do need to keep it all in the wrist or else I'm going to tear my shoulder/rotator cuff. So come to find out an old dog can learn new tricks.
It took me the longest time to understand how important it is to wrap and store your ropes properly. Makes all the difference in the world. Kinky ropes don't do much. So I have my flat spin down real nice and can do a carousal and change from one hand to the other, under the leg. Still having a hard time with my butterfly and wedding rings. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated as I have a lot to learn. |

Al, thanks. I have read the Frank Dean book and I have heard that although Clare Johnson's book is the bible of ropes it is mostly stick figures. Any money spent will be on getting me a big loop with a steel honda. I have four ropes right now, till I get all the basics. A small matching pair for one in each hand practice, a rope honda 10' for all my basics and a 16' with a leather burner for my wedding rings (which need a lot of work)
I'm finally starting to stick my butterflies, which have been my hardest to learn. It's all in allowing the rope to do what it does. Very similar to whips. Sure isn't much support for an art so many do. Of course the majority of the people that spin rope aren't performers. I suppose I'll go hang out at the rodeo.... My jugglers are letting me down. Don't any of you spin rope? Al, if you are interested here are a few more books to choose from. http://www.westernstageprops.com/miva/me......Code=BKS My first four whips came from Mark. Then I started buying them from a few other makers. Most all of my juggling gear is Dube, besides a few Renegade pieces and some custom stuff I built. I have made my own ropes, Cotton core, with the help from a friend that had a spool. He has taught me a lot. Now I want to learn everything with that darn rope. Just like when I was a kid and got my first devil stick. I haven't changed a bit. |

Now that's an idea, contact my local juggling supplier and get commision every time someone buys something based on my recommendation.

Dube has a program set up so you can put a link on your website that will do that. So then if someone asks where to get juggling stuff you tell them your website.
It's called an affiliate program. So incase one day a rope spinner pops in here I will give a few things that I have learned. The most important thing in rope spinning is the feeding and care of your rope. You must break them in and get all kinks out of the rope. Then you must store them perfectly wound into a nice coil less than a foot wide. If you take care of and break your ropes in they will take care of you. It takes longer to break in a rope than a whip. I tied mine up by the ends and put weights in the middle and left them hanging for a few days. That seemed to get most of the kinks out. The rest was done by hand with a glove on. Ted |

He not only is not giving me a commission, but everything in my juggling bag he sold me including several top hats. I guess I'm just a satisfied customer.

Yeah, about 90% of all of our traditional juggling props are Dube. With some Renegade stuff mixed in. I made my own ropes and get my whips from different sources.

I looked at your web site, but I couldn't figure out just where you live. The funny thing about juggling props is every local juggling club gravitates to one manufacturer or another. Passing clubs is the reason why lots of non pro's do at meetings. There are Renegade towns, Dube towns, and Todd Smith towns. The people who use other manufacturers clubs usually don't pass.

Huh, I have never noticed any clicks in juggling. Ever. Renegade has great rings and mouth sticks and some people like the fact their clubs are heavier.
Back on ropes, if you aren't wearing a glove on one hand it will be harder to break your rope in. I wear a glove on my left hand and do most of my spinning with my right. During practice that is. This way I can always use the glove to get the kinks out. I have to take it off to do any tricks with that hand. I got my butterfly down solid now. Flat spins, carousels. Now to work on wedding rings! |

Hi Rotten,
I have the Clare Johnson book from Dube, it wasn't very helpful for me. I learn easier when somebody shows/teaches me the basics, and then I can play around from there. The book has stick figures and text, and I couldn't make heads or tails from it. It's in pristine condition if you'd like mine at a big time discount, please call or e-mail if interested. Thanks, Todd aka Billy Bob Steinberg

My good friend Cowboy Chris McDaniel has a DVD. He's a former world record holder, and one of the nicest guys in showbiz.
