Michael,
when you don;'t have coins with you. what impromptu miracles or effects do you do with borrowed every day coins |

Now that's a good question! I'm assuming you are referring to moments when I don't have my half dollars with me. I do a quadra coin reverse matrix with a penny, nickle, dime, and quarter, and 4 business cards, and have done it on rugs, the back of a coat, and other soft surfaces (You'll find it in my third set of notes and my lecture tape, taught with larger coins). I do a three coin vanish and production with quarters, signed coin to under my business card three times, coins across, coins through the table standing up orsitting down, coin into dinner roll, and gee, I can go on and on. That's the beauty of coin magic - someone ALWAYS has coins! So, what do YOU all do out there?

Michael,
Thanks for all of your informative posts in this forum. Are your lecture notes and tapes currently available? Sorry if you mentioned this in another post. Thanks. David |

Isn't that the beauty with coins? I always carry my half dollars with me but on a few occasions, I've been asked to do coin tricks with different coins--theirs, using a penny, nickel, dime and a quarter and did a coins across (they were thinking that my coins were "tricked out"), coin through pocket (using the Bobo switch), coin through handkerchief (I still use 'em), made them disappear and appear, coins through the hand, a copper/silver type effect using a dime & penny, the gadabout coins and a few more--the possibilities are endless!

David, I sell my third and forth set of notes, and my Philadelphia Lacture tape. My new notes will be sold first at the COINvention, and then afterwards to the public.

Often, I'll do a series of coin passes and reproductions and finish with a coin change.
One of the vanishes that I developed independently, I later discovered that Larry Jennings had predicted in his own work! It's the coin held flat, fist formed, pass the other hand over the fist and voila! Coin is gone routine in the book about him. If I have the wherewithal with me, the transposition happens after playing a little guessing game with the spectator, where they guess (accurately) on two tosses of the coin and then do a B*b* Sw*tch to a giant Chinese coin. Plays pretty well. When the big coin shows up, the line is, "Are you feeling a bit dis-ORIENTED?" Lee Darrow, C.Ht.

Anyone do a flurry routine with a quarter? In my first book I did a routine which was a pre flurry flurry. Some stuff with one coin, that became two. Some stuff with two coins, that became three. I don't remember how it ended, but I think they all vanished at the end.

For impromptu moments, coins across, and matrix with two business cards and quarters. A flurry would be cool, but pretty small, don't you think?

When working close up, smaller coins and smaller gestures seem more apporpriate. Even the 21 cent trick is good at a coffee table.

A flurry is great with a borrowed quarter! Just remember to throw in a spider vanish at one point. Also, i use patter that the quarter isn't really disappearing, but merely traveling backwards thru time that way it makes sense that it sometimes appears in the hand it started out in...at the end I say the quarter can go thru time because the eagle on the back can fly, do a muscle pass and hand the quarter back. This has been very strong for any person i've done it for.

The Flurry idea is wonderful in that it turns a simple vanish into a complex routine, and stops the statement, it must be in the other hand. That is what makes it so strong - it hits you and before you can react, it goes to the next level. There is no chance for reconstruction. Roth has some very clever ideas in his routine, and there are several routines out there that are also very nice. My own routine was much more deliberate, so I don't really look at it as a flurry.
