Hi guys,
I'm wondering on keycards while farro-shuffling the Aronson stack so that after 8 farros I can get it to reset. For example if I do an in farro I know that I must split in half(QH) and the 52nd card (9D) remains on bottom...then what? Can I find info on some book or something on exactly how to do this? I've seen Michael Close's CD-Rom but he never mentions the key cards and stuff Thanks in advance

Close doesn't mention it because it's a treatise on the Faro shuffle, not the Faro with the Aronson stack. I'm sure some people here will be able to provide you with the key card info. I use the Tamariz stack, so I cannot (I can't even tell you what they are for his stack). When you're proficient with the Faro, you'll be able to cut 26 and 26 each time, and if you're off by one, you'll quickly notice.
Like all things in magic, it just takes practice. |

In Allan Ackerman's Advanced Card Control Volume 6, he had a good explanation on how to do a perfect faro consistently. You should check it out.

I think that Nick Pudar's Stack View will do this for you.
Or, do it yourself and write down the bottom cards as you go. If you do it a few times and get consistant results, you have your answer. Dennis Loomis

You'll be doing Out faro shuffles, not in faro shuffles.
The key cards are: QH, 6H, 5S, JD, 6S, QS, QC, 2C. M. Close |

Thank all of you for the info!
Mr.Close, my hero. So an out Faro is when the top packet is one card upper than the bottom packet and an In Faro is the opposite? As for the key cards, I figured them out last night by after doing faros to cut at 26 and also count to be sure and came up with the same! Thanks a lot though! I'm still having a lot of trouble nailing the Faro and I truly envy you for being able to be confident enough to do 8 Faros in a row during a performance. I really love the AS effects and applications and I think that the Faro thing lets you keep the deck in order without anyone asking you tto shuffle or something (i hope that is the case and not that its a really hard move and I want to be able to impress other magicians...damn!) Love your work by the way!

In general, for any stack, the key cards are at positions 26, 39, 20, 36, 44, 48, 50, 51.

Sure you could do 8 out-faros in performance to prove the cards are shuffled and get back into stack order OR you could learn a convincing false shuffle and do that instead. Truffle shuffle, earl grey shuffle, Hollingworth, Heinstein, optical, Mead/Kennedy shuffle are all good if you put in the practice to master them.

Nah, you only need to do seven. Persi Diaconis proved that it only takes seven shuffles to thoroughly shuffle a deck (which means you need to do one before hand).
Though I do agree with you, a few convincing false shuffles would suffice, as would starting half stack, and working your way into full stack with some effects that order the deck for you. There's really a myriad of ways that it can be done. For me, a couple of three-card cover Zarrows and cuts suffice. |

Or give the deck two anti-faros beforehand, and two real ones in performance.

Or give one in faro in performance, followed by a reverse faro. Of course, I've only seen one person successfully do the reverse faro in person.

Michael Skinner's memorized stack was new deck order after it was given five out-faros. This way he could open a new deck at the table, give it five shuffles and be set. At the end of the performance he would give the deck another three out-faros while talking to the spectators and then reveal the deck back in new deck order.

Thank you all guys for your answers...i do perform some good false shuffles that get me through the night but I just want to get into the faro thing, that's all.
