Are there still plans to reprint and any update of the date?

I'll have two large books on the magic of Larry Jennings out before that.

I did manage to get the 600-page book "Mr. Jennings Takes it Easy" out this past year. But the second Jennings book "Mr. Jennings Takes it Tough" will wait until after "Greater Magic."
Am very busy every day on Greater Magic. There are 24 new chapters being written by others, and I am writing additional new chapters as well as updating many sections. Publication date for the two or three volume set is now expected to be end of 2023. The entire project has evolved considerably in the past two years. More material will be added from the period in which the book was originally published, as well as an enormous amount of material published from 1938 until now. The idea is, as was Hilliard's goal, to provide a wide and sweeping view of the best of magic in all its aspects over time. There will be history added to the beginning of many of the entries, evolution, and great methods in all areas. It may end up as two 900 page books, or three 700 page books, and will come in a slipcase. Exterior trim size not decided: most of us want to maintain that "big red brick" feeling of the original. Also, the larger the trim size the heavier the books will be. So, could be the original 6 x 9, or possibly 7 x 10 so I can increase the size of the type slightly for easier reading. All of these decisions lie ahead in the next two years. First, the content! |

Please don't let the Takes It Tough book get kicked too deeply into the long grass. Life is — increasingly — too short.

I wrote the first 500 pages of Takes it Tough during the first part of the pandemic.

Definitely a classic, so glad it still gets the attention it deserves.

Cruising through Greater Magic. Just finished 50,000 words on a Cups and Balls chapter; 25,000 words on a spongeball chapter. Moving right along! Next ... ropes.
