if we are even thinking of the same move, then try this, it helped start me off! Put your pinkie finger in front of the card not behind it, thus you have a full grip with all four fingers for the move. I know a friend who does it with one finger and quickly brings round the 2nd finger to do the action, now thats skillful!
hope it helps... |

If the problem you are having is that the card gets caught as you do the move, then try angling your fingers on the card, if they are at a 45 degree angle to the card then it should give you more clearance. Also, I use 3 fingers so you get more speed and power. See if that helps.

Ok basically another way you could try is either horizontally as opposed to vertically or vice-versa depending on which way you have been trying it.
Having trouble setting it up... if we are thinking of the same thing it's just two cards together...?? Andy |

Actually, I feel that two fingers give it more speed. Just my two cents.

Faster perhaps, but I've never been questioned about it, it's just a personal preference. I love Kellser121's idea of doing it horizontally as opposed to vertically or vice-versa, great thinking from a great thinker!
Do you guys think the move is still a good one in the wake of David Blaines usage? |

UHM? David Blaine did the snap change? Just kidding... and yes it is a good move.. try doing it really slow one time in the offset of misdirection.. that creeps even me out.. and the spectator usually gets a spook too. I am still pondering what the heck you are talking about horizontally instead of vertically... is vertical possible?

You got to stand for something or you will fall for anything .... unless you are tired and you need to lay down or at least sit down then it is ok not to stand, my own opinion of course.

I would recommend McBride's card manipulation video for a good explanation of Ed Marlos snap change. He offers a vary good handling to avoid any angle problems that you might generally have to deal with.

But doesn't that one require the rest of the deck? Still if McBride does it, then who am I to argue. I personally prefer the in-ya-face method!

when you perform the change, grip the two cards together w/left thumb and middle finger, and visa versa, then just pull the cards away, don't necessarily try to flip it, hope it helps

I prefer 2 fingers, as fewer things move, and hence there is less to be noticed. But I am nit-picky.
I think it is a great change regardless of David Blaine using it. Heck, it might make you appear better. "He did the same thing as the guy on TV!!!" |

The snap change is a Marlo idea from Marlo Magazine 2 (1977) pp. 158-161 under the name "The Snap Change." The idea of holding the card horizontally is not new. That's how Marlo describes it in the original. It's very difficult to do it vertically.
The card is held horizontally at the right lower corner by the right 1st and 2nd fingers only. The outer card is pulled down and under the inner card in an action which is exactly like snapping your fingers. BTW there are some other very cool changes and switches in Magazine 2. Mike Powers

I think a few people are confusing the shapeshifter (which I have heard called a snap change) with the Ed Marlo Snap change. Here's my two cents since the Marlo snap change is my favorite change. Everytime I screwed up this change was because I would bring my middle finger and ring finger back together. To make it work you need that ring finger to stay up to help the cards break past each other. In other words ONLY your middle finger should go back at first then once the cards have cleared you can bring them all in.

another instant change, similar but different from Ed Marlo's is the flip-over change... I like that one a little more I think. I like to show the card front and back very cleanly before and then after the change, a lot of times they want to inspect it, which I let them do.
