Hey everyone,
I wasn't sure where to post this as I have searched the Café entirely in the search section and have spent days searching the internet, asked all the most knowledgeable magicians I know, and other magic sites and have come up with no answers. I am wondering if anyone knows who the creator is of the vanishing card case. I am not looking for the empty plastic box version but the practically self working one where you turn over the card case and it disappears due to the clever design. I am about to release my version of it that is in 3D and includes a whole lot of original ideas that I have been doing with it for over 10 years but wish to credit the person who created the original. I first bought mine about 20 years ago from a little magic shop in Edmonton but it did not credit anyone for it. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, TC

I can't resist. My dog invented the vanishing card case. Spell his name right in the credits. Rex.

Ok I did a bunch of research and asked around. The only thing in print that I found was Brother John Hamman - Deck In Parvo.
This trick is where the card box changes into a mini box. It uses the gimmick to vainish the card box but he produces the mini one immediatly afterwords. The original publication was from the "The Legendary Kabbala" by Jon Racherbaumer. But was later republished in "The Secrets of Brother John Hamman" by Richard Kaufman. http://archive.denisbehr.de/show.php?boo......ht=21722 |

Hey guys, Sorry I was off the Café for so long. My pop passed away so I was helping out my mom and brother back in Edmonton for a while and I have been trying to also prepare for some lectures coming up in October. Thanks so much for doing some research to help me out on this. I also have not found out exactly who could have invented the original version. I am keeping up the research and will won't release it until I can figure out if there is a name to be credited with the original version. Mine will be a doozy and am doing a limited release at the Three of Clubs convention in October 2 -4 in Victoria, Canada and then again the next weekend at Mindvention in Vegas on November 11 - 13.
For now, back to the books and more research. Thanks brothers. Tony

Rob Bromley produced a vanishing deck but I doubt he was the first.

Hi Tony cant wait to see what this is all about, I use lots of your effects, in fact I have made my very own Ceromony of the Elements and carry it around everywhere, it always has a great response for such a simple method.
My condolences go out to you and your family. |

Hi Tony, I still have mine that I bought an age ago and on the instruction sheet it is titled as "Rob Bromley's Ultra Slim Vanishing Deck." It's also listed on the Hocus Pocus website under his name.
http://www.hocuspocusmagic.com/shop-productview.php?prod=188 Might be worth contacting them for any info on the originator. |

Tony-
I am not familiar with the details of your effect, but it sounds very similar to Ken Brooke' s Vanishing Cards and Cardcase from Lewis Ganson's book Unconventional Magic. I no longer have the book so I am unable to check the details, but I seem to remember that the book was published around 1950 by Supreme Magic in Bideford, UK. Ken Brooke's trick is simple but effective. Best regards. |

Hi guys,
Thanks so much for the help. I will have to look at the Hocus Pocus one and try to find a copy of Ken Brooke's Vanishing cardcase fom his book. Hopefully I can research it enough to figure out if they are the same as miine. Tony

Tony,
On http://www.magictricks.com/who-invented-it.html, I found this listing, VANISHING CARD CASE by Milbourne Christopher. When clicked this site comes up http://www.magictricks.com/disappearing-cards-and-case.html, hope this helps. John

Ken Brooke. Nice. Finally you can share your very own original vanishing card case in the community Tony. Honestly that trick seems to be very interesting to learn since most of the spectators are always expecting the cards to be the point of interest when magicians do tricks. Cheers!
