The only time that vintage tenyo will drop in price is when the manufacturer chooses to do a re-issue.
In the toys industry, it is common for Japanese manufacturers to "milk" the market and launch a production "remake" batch of popular series. It is not in their interest to keep secondary market prices high, but to sell more if demand justifies another production run. Let's hope Tenyo don't go there for the sake of keeping it "collectible" (well, depending on which side of the coin you are at) |

Interesting thoughts Richard, that'sCool and Tan. I however think if Tenyo would ever stop making magic tricks on a short term prices will increase. On the long term I don't know.
Does Tenyo actually bother with what their old tricks are worth nowdays? Do they even know? Because why don't they do a re-production? Some sort of 'vintage collectable series'? A small number for, let's say 100 USD per trick? If I were the president of Tenyo's magic department I would consider that. On the other hand a re-production could cost them more then they would gain with it. Their tricks are 'mass produced' and only producing a small number would probably have high production costs. There aren't actually THAT much Tenyo-collectors. A few hundred maybe all over the world? I'm sure there are a lot more Star-Wars collectors then there are Tenyo collectors for instance. |

Very true Tweety.
You are 100% right about companies production costs versus amount produced, sold, etc. Tenyo would have to charge a high price for any limited run of an item to offset those costs and to maximize profit. Unless someone works for or knows someone that works for Tenyo (or has), we have no idea how they decide things. I do think if they stopped making magic or cut down, that the older items would probably become more coveted to those interested. The value for some is a business and only monetary, others, both monetary & collectible, and the last group, those that collect because they just like the illusions. I like certain Tenyo Magic items and collect only those. I don't have a lot or want to acquire the entire collection, just the ones I think are cool. I get a kick out of the ones I do own and perform with. Whatever reason people collect is fine. I just hope that everyone remembers to have fun with it and not get so caught up in all of the drama and weirdness. |

If my remember is good, Hideo Kato say on forum that in Tenyo the minimum number To produce a new batch of magic tricks after the fist run was 2000 pieces. Below this number Tenyo chosen discontinued trick.

Tenyo never puts out old items unless they feel they have sales value to the general Japanese public, which is their main market. That's why you see items such as Billiard Balls, Coin Fan, and others currently being made and sold in Japan and nowhere else. Tenyo is a large company and the magic division is a very small part of their overall business.

Yes, they do love jigsaw puzzles. They complete them, frame them, and hang them.
