Hey I was thinking about buying the sidewalk shuffle and use it for some walk around, what do yall think about the trick, and do you think it would work well for walk around magic?
Thanks in advance Alex |

Fabulous trick. Quick reset. Is kinda lengthy, and does require that the spectators pay "somewhat" close attention, so if your audience isn't in a noisy, drunken bar, you should have a blast with it.
Be prepared to have people ask to examine the cards though...so routine the ending carefully. |

Or consider a similar, non-gaff effect like Virginia City Shuffle. |

Oh that sounds great, I thought they were the same trick just a different name. So Sidewalk is gaffed and Virginia is not, that's the only difference?

Yes, unless memory fails me, they are essentially the same trick, with Virginia City Shuffle using all normal cards.

Go with Michael Ammar's Virginia City Shuffle. It's easy to do & uses no gaffs.
I've had a room full of screaming women after performing it. That's quite unusual for a card trick. Especially in the UK! |

I would also add Richard Vollmer's "Poor Man's Monte" from the blue Apocalypse volume. The cards are normal and with a slight handling variation by Harry Lorayne all the cards can be examined. I have never felt the need to use the variant though it is good. It is a HIGHLY visual effect, not lengthy and there is a LOT of magic happening throughout.

The handling of "Poor Man's Monte" kind of reminds me of "Color Monte". Would that be a good way to explain it?

There IS a similarity between the two in effect but unlike Jim Temple's adaptation of a Marlo effect in Ibidem, not all of the cards are shown to be the same. The money card is still the focus and there is no gag ending. All of that said, I CAN see how you might perceive similarities in effect in that both are Monte type effects but their respective methodologies are not even close. Namaste, Vlad |
