I'm really proud that people not really good in English can understand my writings, it means I'm very good at explaining things, hahaha.
More seriously, I appreciate you dared to try because eventually, what? You found out that stacking it's not difficult at all to understand! (The necessary technique is another thing). How many times I have spoken with Magicians who told me that "formulas" are difficult and so on. Formulas? Geez, is it that difficult to remember things like "N+1"? Besides, you don't need to learn 20 formulas, usually, you need a couple of them only. Me, for instance, I use 2 formulas only. Someone targeting impressive demos might need 4 or 5? I honestly think that what was missing in the literature was something self-explanatory, easy to understand and read. It was not easy to find the best way to present all these numbers. But I think (and all your comments reassure me) that I eventually came up with a good method. As a matter of fact, I merely wrote these two volumes the way I would have enjoyed someone did it before me. But as no one did it... I had to do it myself. But the only way to improve my style is through YOUR comments. That's why I always appreciate when people give me their advice, point of view or review. I'm only sad because not many of you post videos showing how you apply all my prose. Thanks! |

Oh because I don't like when somebody is sad...I post an "old" video (october 2011).
One of my first attempt after reading your first booklet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL4lIWhaL1A (2 big mistakes here I think is the strip cut and the last cut. Anyway, in my defence, I'm a magician and I had not praticed a lot at this time...) I'm a little boy in stacking yet. At the moment, my main drill is : I take 2 dices and I roll them 2 times. One time to knowing the number of players (of course if I do 11 or 12, I'm just dealing for 10 players). The second time is the place of the partner. |

Thanks for posting my friends, now I feel better .
If you allow me one general comment, I would say that you ought to relax more. Don't try to speed up, don't go over your capabilities. I know that there is a "school" saying that speed is essential, but it's not mine. Me, I stress the "naturalness". The point is to leave people under the impression you are simply shuffling cards. Practice with the TV on, listen to music, talk with people. Me, for instance, I've been practicing a lot imagining I was shuffling/dealing an actual game. For example, don't stare at your hands, imagine you are talking about football with the player at your right, etc. It's OK for looking occasionally at the deck while shuffling (everyone does that, even professional dealers) but it must really look like fortuitous (you're just checking briefly your shuffle in order to keep the deck squared). Keep the same hand positioning, whether you are faroing the deck or not. We have the bad habit (me, at least) to speed up the Faro compared to a simple riffle. Keep the good work running boys! |

More than one year ago I get a booklet from AMcD named "Arcanum: Stacking formulary for Draw Poker and Texas Hold'em", then I put it in a corner of my hard disk and never read it until the last week. Why? Two reasons for that:
1/ I don't like to read books on my computer, so I wanted to print it before starting the read. Just some weeks ago I realize I had an access to a printer wich automatically print on recto/verso, so I jumped on the occasion. 2/ The second reason is I didn't feel comfortable enough with the riffle stacking technique at this time. Today I can play with the move and enjoy my training session, so I decided to learn a little bit much more about the wonderfull world of riffle stacking and start to read "Arcanum Formulary Stacking". At the first look, all those scientific formulas looks very complicated. But when you make the effort to unterstand them, you realize they are just the mathematical writting of "hold back 4 cards at the first riffle, 3 cards at the second etc etc...". You will also realize that you don't need to learn all these formulas by heart to get some results. Two or three are enough for your favorite variant of poker. The magician who have a determined routine will probably no need "Formulas" to stack a deck since he know in advance how much cards to hold back etc. But if you plan to deal with your spectators and give them an "interactive" session, I think, "Formulary stacking" is the best approach. The same for the card table, if you only plan to stack cards for you when you are the dealer, no need to use this formulas (even if you can). But if you are a permanent dealer wich want to double duke your partner and a sucker, you will probably need this mathematical approach. Even if I'm not a Math guy, I can only admire the work put by Arnold in this booklet. The book is very well structured, detailed, as clear as possible. Through this booklet, you can feel the author's love for mathematics, details, perfection, deep studies, and cards, of course. I really enjoyed this booklet and keep it with me for a deeper study while I'll get better at stacking. I hope to get lucky enough one day to read the first Arcanum to complete my studies of stacking. Yes, you have to learn the techniques before learning the math. So, Thank you Arnold, and Happy new year to all. Cordially, Jackouille. |

Hi!
As a matter of fact, the formulas are not difficult at all! What are we talking about, things like N-1 or N-P... I don't find it very difficult to learn . Many people were a bit scared when reading the first pages but after a few drills (provided), after giving that particular "science" (stacking) the minimum of work it deserves, everyone was eventually pleased . I'm not sure about what you mean by "if you only plan to stack cards for you when you are the dealer, no need to use this formulas" but anyway, thanks for the nice words! |
