I was listening to Dr. Erwin Lutzer of The Moody Church Hour (see http://www.oneplace.com) for his August 19, 2012 message "God's Glory In Our Church" of the "Moody Church Hour"--- and he told the very funny story at the beginning of the sermon about the "Tator" family"- Agitator, Hesitator, Spectator, Imitator, etc. Seems like I vaguely recall someplace an old Gospel magic trick/effect/story cards using this same theme years ago. Any one recall? Still available? Pretty funny story yet can get many lessons/illustrations out of it. We will be at Moody Church this Sunday at with my adult kids (who live in Chicago)- will be a real thrill to visit that great church.

http://stl.ag.org/stldigi/downloads/sermon/sermon_tator.pdf. has the examples you are talking about. I don't know of any "tricks" that are out there, but I have heard several versions of the story by different folks. They have added "couch potato," "tator tots" when talking about kids, "sweet potato" for kind people, etc.
You can always get a big square circle and produce dressed up Potato Heads as you tell your story. Would of course suggests gluing the pieces in to the different Potato Heads or your act could be a bit mashed. (couldn't resist that one).

A friend of mine produced some simple videos based on this play on words called "Tator-Tales"

Pastor Lutzer starts out with "Dick Tator"- yikes- he is the member of the Tator family.

I should say the "worst" member of the Tator family?

Duane Laflin produced a set of large cards to perform the tator family story. It came with the typed story as well.
