I survived my first show.
Up until this past Sunday, I had only performed individual tricks or demonstrated individual object lessons. This past weekend my wife was in charge of children's ministry at a race track. As members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association we attend motorcycle drag races at a track in Rockingham, NC. In exchange for our members working the gate and performing other work that needs to be done we are allowed to set up a hospitality tent for adult ministry and do the children's ministry. Crafts, bible stories and things like that have always been on the schedule but this year my wife wanted Gospel Magic on the schedule. Things worked out well even though I ended up competing with the noise from the track. If I do this again we are going to change the schedule so I'm not trying to perform when the pro bikes (the loudest ones) are racing. Now I have enough confidence to do a show or shows at my church later this month. I am so appreciative of all the advice I have received here. Mike |

Way to go! Keep building on it and get the message out there! We are here to be all the support we can be!

It appears this was Kif's last posting on The Magic Café...not surprising it was to encourage and offer support to a fellow performer. Miss you brother!

Mike, I am so sorry. I didn't mean to trample on your thread and not offer encouragement as well.
That is great news. I am glad you made it (engines roaring and all.) Good success to you in preparing for your shows at church. Something that has helped others and perhaps would help you as well; try getting someone to video you doing your performance. Then you can watch it and get some good insights to improve your magic. The mirror is good for a quick look or angle but do not get used to performing in front of a mirror because you practice looking at your hands most of the time and then in performance it translates the same way. For that reason, video provides better feedback. Have a great day! |

Gary, I don't feel like you trampled on my thread. I had realized the same thing about Kif's post. I already had 2 routines from Kif that I am working on for the lota bowl and the strat-o-sphere. Then I got a post of encouragement from Kif and then Kif was gone. I'm taking it all as a sign that I am on the right track with this ministry and I grieve for the loss of Kif.
