I'm looking to get started in stacked deck work. Based on everything I've read here I can't decide if I should get Osterlinds Dynamo Deck or Johnsons SUM Deck. I liked the idea of having a marked deck as well as a stack. It seems like I can get more out of the SUM Deck.

I created my own marked mem deck with help / guidance from Dennis Loomis here. You'll find (Search) there's been some interesting discussion on this forum.

A marked and memorized deck is a very powerful tool. The fact that the deck is memorized allows you to know the position of every card, and the marks mean that you don't have to glimpse the faces of the cards to tell you where you are at. And should your deck get accidentally shuffled or dropped on the floor, you still have a marked deck which is a powerful tool in itself.

I bought both the Dynamo Deck and the SUM deck last year. The two products are very different. For what its worth, I use Dynamo deck frequently, while the SUM deck never clicked for me.
Neither of these decks are oriented at memorization. If anything, they are alternatives, because they have such interesting features withouth memorizing them. Of course you can memorize them if you want to. SUM deck has tricks stacked into it, and has a marking system that allows you to use it as a rosary stack. It does not have have the red/black or numerical properties of the Si Stebbins system. Dynamo Deck comes with a booklet of tricks and advice that I found useful. It is similar to Si Stebbins, so many good tricks that work with that system also work with DD. Some recent favorites of mine are Darwin Ortiz's Card Sense, Woody Aragon's Si Fry and Lenart Green's Two Dragons. I have also had a great time with the Cards in Pockets and Calling Cards that I believe were explained in the Dynamo Deck booklet. I am really happy I bought it. One person's experience. |

There is a new article on my Web Site (number 23) which addresses the power of a memorized AND marked deck.
When used in conjunction with the Haymow Shuffle, you can get to anywhere in the stack that you need/want to be without ever seeing the face of a card. Dennis Loomis

Thanks Dennis, I currently have been working with Osterlind's Breakthrough Card System so maybe I'll just apply that to a marked deck.
