I will just quote Peter Loughran: No matter what you invent or release you will NEVER PLEASE EVERYONE.
It's not a personal thing, it's just not everyone's preference.
Magic comes through perception. -HS

Sure,on man's trash is another man's treasure.
At least with a dancing hank you get a nice small silk, the childrens stamp of a butterfly that comes with this is C$@# I still stand by my beer offer!

I understand that when we purchase an effect that often our first impression is "That's it, I just paid $XX.xx for that?!" but then we remember why we bought it, because someone at one time made it magical enough to grab our attention and pull a couple bucks from our wallet. This trick, for some, will be one of those instances where you open the box and possibly deflate for just a moment. The gimmick is simple and we all could make one in just a few minutes if we had put our brains to work. I feel the real value here is the work Mark has done to develop the animations that can be performed with the gimmick. The DVD is the real value! Mark teaches in great detail over a dozen moves and handlings to make the butterfly suddenly appear or vanish and most of all, come alive. This is the real work here, not the prop. As for the butterflies included in the box, Mark uses a ready made, easy to purchase (for replacements) buttery that is used today on stage by top performers and I don't find anyone complaining about the way they look for the pros. If you want a more 'realistic' looking butterfly, it could easily be adapted to the gimmick, but I don't feel it would make it any more or less magical. The Butterfly In A Box is not about the paper butterfly, it's about the magical moment a butterfly (paper or real) can bring, floating effortlessly, freely on the wind. Learn the animations from the DVD and beyond that, learn how to think about a trick and all the possibilities of how a simple gimmick can create a magical experience for someone other than your own jaded magicians eye.

Doring the early 90s I marketed a very short run of an effect called flutter fly by Ron Romiski.. It was an extremely realistic, all be it fragile butterfly. It animated for a very short period. Much to my dismay it never caught on as well as I had hoped in the world of magic but did sell fairly well at clown ralley and clown colleges. It was picked up by a shop in my hometown and sold in laughmakers magazine. don't know if any still exist ,but they may. I will be looking into this other effect.
