Hello everyone,
My name is Dempsey, I'm 22 years old and I live in Belgium. I started my journey in magic only a few months ago. I've been lurking this forum ever since, but the magic bug has really gotten to me, so I've finally decided to register and say hello. I began with learning card magic, but I'm slowly expanding to other regions like sponge balls, cups & balls, ... I'm far away from a decent performance level, but the joy I get from entertaining and fooling my friends and family is undescribable. Some very important exams are coming up for me, so for the moment I'm not learning much in Magic, but I hope that after my exams I can learn enough to take it out on the street and entertain people. My girlfriend thinks it's good enough to perform for strangers but I'm still too nervous, hands shaking all over the place . So in short, I hope I can learn a lot more than I already have from reading all these informative posts on the Café, and I hope I can someday return the favour. Greetings from Belgium ! |

Welcome d3mpzeh,
Don't worry about the shaking hands, they get better the more you perform. Focus on sharing fun more than fooling and you won't feel as much pressure. -Mary Mowder |

Thanks for the welcome!
And thanks for the tip Mary, I do try to focus more on the fun part, but friends and family are a hard target, they truly don't believe in magic and want to figure everything out |

That is really why strangers are an easier audience. Your family and friends know you and your body language very well. They can tell when you are playing them false.
I think your girlfriend intuitively understands that "No man is a profit in his own land." and strangers will give you more respect. Try it. -Mary Mowder |
