Dear all,
I am on a limited budget and have found these 2 books on the net for sale, however I can only afford one. Which one is the most useful, i.e. which books have the effects that you most use/like. Thanks in advance Dave

I think smoke and mirrors...where did you find it for sale? most dealers are all sold out. I think the general consensus on the Café is that smoke and mirrors is a must own book. I love it. I don't have secrets of bro john hamman but his two most popular tricks...twins and your signed card can be found on Ammar's dvds

I have both, and personally, I like The Secrets of Brother John Hamman better. I use more from it, and it's ALL cards (which I like). You really can't go wrong though, because Smoke and Mirrors is definitely right up there, too.

I'm with Cameron on this one, both are must have books, but the secrets of Bro. John is one of my all time fave books. However as Smoke and Mirrors is currently out of print, if you can get it for a reasonable price then get it now and buy Bro. John next month.

With the risk of being tossed on the recent bandwagon, I would like to say again that I am a Smoke and Mirrors devotee. I expressed my opinions regarding this book "pre-hype". I have not read much of Bro. John's book, so I will not comment on it. I will say that I use more out of Smoke and Mirrors than out of any book I own. It truly is a wonderful book.

I found a copy of Smoke and Mirrors at Bradbury books.I suggest you buy now before it goes out of stock again.I haven't read the other title,so I cannot judge it.Smoke and Mirros is an excellent book.

Well I would get the Hamman book if I could find it.
I've heard "from reliable sources" that Smoke and Mirrors will be reprinted in 2004. Then I will get that one. Both are good

I have Smoke and Mirrors and I'm very proud of this fact. Great book. I can't comment on the Hamman book.

About 3 weeks ago, I was able to find Hamman's book via Abebooks.com, and was pleasently surprised.
It was being sold as a used book, but said it was in good condition. When it arrived, I found they had misrepresented the book.... it wasn't used at all. It was still in its shrink-wrap and the binding still needed broken in. Wonderful book! |

Well, as you all probably know by now, Im a BIG fan of the late Bro John Hamman.
So my choice is rather obvious. It's a grrrrrrr8 book if you into cardmagic. But Smoke and Mirrors is not bad either. I just so biased into this

For anyone looking for the Hamman book, Martin Joyal just put a copy up on his site for $35. Hurry, I'm sure it will be gone quickly.

After reading Smoke and Mirrors and watching the video,I must say that it is a great book.Elsewhere in this forum,it is up against Art of Astonishment. Most people voted for S&M.This is a surprise.I believed the hype and immediately got the book.Maybe it was the hype, but I was somewhat dissapointed with S&M.If people think this is better than Art...,they must have a different copy of S&M.I am still looking for a book/books that rival Art...!Paul Harris' tricks give you a fealing of WOWW!!!This is my opinion, but an unbiased one.
And don't get me wrong,S&M is good ,but not quite as good as Art..,period. Andre ajcombri@telkomsa.net |

You will regret that Dave, it's a fantastic book.
But of course, the choice is yours.
