Hello Michael,
Welcome to the Café! Could you tell us a bit about your first book "Next Victim, Please..."? What sort of material was in it? Have your material and philosophy "matured" since the printing of that work? It is still available? Thanks Bosco |

Thanks for the question Bosco. "Next Victim, Please..." Is a book filled with a mixture of effects like "Miracle Material". Cards, Coins, and those in the "Other" category. It also has a section on some really neat moves such as the "Rolldown Switch" where a coin is switched during a coin roll flourish. To be honest, I'm not sure if the book is available. A quick search didn't come up with any results except for the publisher. Here's the link.. http://www.trickster.com/catalog/n-booklist.html
I haven't seen it in the marketplace for years and even I only have two copies. So The contents of the book are varied..It was a time when many of the things I did were influenced by restaurant magic and quick hitting visual magic. One of the effects from the book "Flash Deck" (A production of a deck of cards in a flash of fire) can be seen here in a promotional video that was done for VEGAS playing card company a few years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uO0RUyprvM While I still love to perform really visual magic, I would definately say my magic has matured along the way. Story lines have become more important and the feeling of communicating magic through words and actions has made my performances much better. I have always loved the classics of magic...and while I continually try and push myself to think outside the box on creating new and different effects, I also try and look at the classics and try and figure out in what ways can I personalize them and make them my own. John G's one degree is one of the best reads in magic IMHO. All of my magic was created over time, in the trenches, in real world situations and I continually try and make it better. So when you see a magician re-release something it is usually because they have found this "one degree" to make it better and we want to share. To give you an example of this, since my books have been printed, I have updated handlings on probably half of the material. It was my best effort at the time...but now I feel the changes I've made have made the effects play stronger and in many cases are more direct and more magical. And if you do happen to pick up "NVP" be sure to check out the rope routine at the end. I wasn't originally going to include it in the book as it is really more of a stand up piece and not close up ...guess you could call it convention close up..lol.. I digress, anyway, I think it is fun to perform, has many magical moments and it's not a card trick! Hope that helps! |
