I've actually been into magic for a little over 10 years now, on and off. I've got a ton of material, but one of the issues that still really troubles me is how to find an audience, and also how to determine when it's appropriate to perform magic for people.
Somehow I feel like it's never the right time to perform a magic trick. How do you bring up the topic of magic so that it makes sense to perform a trick? My main audience has always been close family. Fortunately, it has become somewhat of a tradition for me to perform a set of magic tricks at several family gatherings during the year. Because I know that I'm expected to perform, there's no need for me to bring up the subject. When you're out with people does it work if you just start out by saying something like, "did you want to see some magic?" or "can I show you something that I've been working on?". I'd really like to get over this awkward feeling of never feeling like it's the right time to perform. |

Just do something like making their change disappear when paying for something, they normally say how did you do that and off you go.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

Or make the pen vanish when you're signing for your meal at a restaurant..."I hate it when that happens..." and off you go.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
