There are references about the Greek Deal (GD), sure. Not that many though. In short I think one of the most credible demonstration is the one Jason England teaches in his series. Working from memory here, I might be wrong, but I think Martin Nash had a cool method too.
About its utility... As usual, everything's possible, context, etc. Sure. But why bother with such difficult techniques when (far) easier ones are available? Besides, the GD is very difficult to setup. You have to shift the cut card prior to the deal. That setup is far from being discreet. Some guys here have shown me nice ideas though. Personally, the best results I had were when "toying" with a cut card slightly trimmed on one side. It allowed a more discreet setup. But frankly, it's for the fun of it. I find this technique as useful as the center deal... |

Thank you, AMcD I probably will never try to learn a GD but I find it an interesting move and wonder where it originated or why it originated. Personally, I am working on a bottom right now. The source that has helped me the most so far is Jack Carpenter. His philosophy and technique helped me acquire very quickly the basic mechanics so it is reliable and I can get the card out every time. I have tons of finger flash right now, but I think that will be refined over time and practice as I get more comfortable with it. Thanks for all the input guys.

Hey guys, I think I've decided to get Foundations and I'll probably sell Mechanic. All your comments have really helped. Just wanted to say thanks again.

The Gambling Protection Series blew my mind! It is the greatest work on card handling ever put on film. If you have not seen it get ready for the real work shown by a master. Forte is card god.

Yes, he is. Everything he does looks perfect (Forte, I mean). These dvds are also on my list. I have seen many clips on youtube and I have his Hidden Secrets of Magic segment from years ago to study. He is unbelievably good. Thanks for the advice! Much appreciated.
Just FYI, been working on the finger flash and I found that changing my grip, while it feels awkward still, is helping more than anything else. Marlo's Master Grip got me thinking of changing grips and it has worked so far. Back to practicing. |

Having watched the two DVDs last night I find two obvious issues with DMs story:
- claiming he is a bottom deal, never discusses anything about how he got the cards to the bottom. - secondly, the amount of times he exposes the bottom card when dealing or when performing his various shifts is just a joke. His bottom deal's only really advantage is in consecutive bottoms, though I would add Maze's grip is more thought out. |

I believe that bottom dealers are an extinct race among cardhustlers anyway, so that is one major issue with Madison's claims alltogether. Ofcourse you can see them occasionally in Joe's homegame, but in underground high stake pokergames in London clubs? I am not an Englishman, but that's really hard to believe, a real stretch for me.

Totally agree Erdnase27,
Was just providing further evidence from the source that his claims are unviable |

Having spent a lot of time with both Jason England's 'Foundations' which is excellent and 'mechanic' I have to say that both have their merits. Although at times on Mechanic techniques are exposed in demonstration, I can really appreciate Madison's technique for the bottom deal. The push out is much smoother and very liable. It also eliminates a lot of flash common with other push out methods because the loosing process is better and much exaggerated. As to which is best, Both! You have to spend time with all techniques to discover the pro's and con's of each. I enjoy Madsion's technique for the bottom deal and use it exclusively when not needing to deal consecutive bottoms. My audiences seem to enjoy it too

Having watched Daniels Mechanic several times over it is safe to say he probably did not use half this stuff in the real world while gambling with cardmen. That being said, this work has a lot to offer magicians performing for laypeople and I have been using sleights and ideas from this for years now.
