I'm 17 and I've been perfoming magic during 2 years. Classmates, friends, friends of friends, strangers etc...
Now I realise that my perfomances were in silence. Only "put the card here", "say stop" and so on. So my question: What should I say? P.S. My english is awful:) |

Say whatever you want to or don't say anything at all.
There is no "what to say", that's the beautiful part! |

Scripting Magic by Pete McCabe Is worth reading. This link, http://magic.about.com/od/magicreview/fr/022308script.htm , will take you to a review of the book. I hope this helps.

Going off of what Mark suggested--scripting your routines is one of the most important things you can do as a performer. Scripting means writing down what you're going to say when you perform a trick, memorizing that and practicing the routine while saying the script. Only you can decide what is best for yourself to say during a performance. If you have a good script, then you can either stick to it, or make things up around the ideas of it.

If you are going to do a stage performance, you probably need a script, at least until you get a lot of experience. There are exceptions, of course. You might be doing a mime performance or something like the classical Chinese rings.
If you are doing close-up magic, you should practice some patter for each trick, and for beginning, end and transitions. |

When I started out I found it so hard to actually practice with patter. I'd have an idea of what I wanted to say but it felt odd talking out loud in my house with a deck of cards or a handful of coins. When I got to performing I'd start my patter and be filling it with awful things like "uuumm" or "you know?" While I tried to remember my next line. In the end I wrote the patter down and I began to practice it while doing the trick mentally. Then I added them together when I knew my lines in and out. Do that for all your tricks, then start writing something to link one trick into another. It doesn't have to be comedy gold just more than describing what you are doing.

You might want to look at Exploring Magic Presentations by Eugene Burger. It's a great lesson in coming up with a presentational hook for the magic.

Thanks to all. About scripting, I have several scripts, I wrote them before I went to street for busking magic. But I just copied speeches of great performers such as David Stone, Gazzo, Jimmy Talksalot, Cellini and translated them to Russian . But it wasn't mine. It doesn't suit me.
I find some good staff http://jimmytalksalot.blogspot.ru/2007/1......-to.html Where I can find history of magic, tricks, sleights (books, sites) to fill my show. Some interesting gags? |

My advice...just be natural, you know, yourself.

I think DomC is on track as are the other posters. The next level is to put "NATURAL" into some character. Are you a shyster? A clown? A mime? There is nothing wrong with a silent MO, except it is so quiet! I tackle this with good music, when I want to do a silent routine. If I want to be mysterious, I use eastern music- turkish for example. When I want to stir the pot, I have an entire routine done to "hand jive" which gets the crowd rockin'. You are on a good track... good question...
Also known, when doing rope magic, as "Cordini"
