Too bad CNN did not cover this story: http://www.salemnews.com/nationworld/x21......lowstone
After Negative PR, WWII vets allowed to visit Memorial: http://www.salemnews.com/nationworld/x21......lowstone Are they really saving Money? http://siouxcityjournal.com/ap/lee/gover......964.html This is all so much BS. There are hundreds of ways to save money without hurting the taxpayer but then again, why should the Feds be inconvenienced? Iven

I can't even keep a straight face at the word "shutdown."
The federal government "shutdown" less than 15% of it's operations, and of those, they seem to be trying to make those minor changes as much of an inconvenience for as many people as they can. The government can't even "shutdown" right. People are nothing more than bargaining chips for politicians to push around.

I wish I could "hide" posts here like on facebook. Some peoples' ignorance is offensive to my eyes.

Wasn't talking to you, Iven. I was talking about the individual choosing to suggest that children being denied needed medical treatments and food stamps due to the government shutdown was something to laugh about. Yup, just hilarious.
PS: Take note that I haven't called anyone any names. Don't know where that notion came from.

Since nobody asked but everyone assumed, here's what ticks me off:
The government shutdown is not a "minor" issue. There's a myth some are trying to float that "all that's happening is a few museums are closing." Bull. As mentioned, kids aren't getting their cancer treatments from the NIH. My student loans are late (good thing I have a cushion in the bank, some don't). Some of my friends with children who are already struggling to make ends meet are getting their food stamps late. Killed soldiers' wives aren't getting their bereavement checks. The list goes on and on and on. These are not minor inconveniences. They should not be made light of. The idea of doing so offends me to the core. And I am entirely free to lament that I have seen such ignorance. And how dare anyone tell me how I ought to feel about it? Seriously. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind and I haven't called anyone names, I just said I wished I hadn't seen it. That's my feeling and my opinion. If others get theirs then I get mine too. Let us not sink into hypocrisy.

I think you read more into GDW's post than was intended. It seems that we all are in agreement here, at least on some level. It must have been the statement that the "shutdown" was only 15% and were minor. I am sure that GDW is just as outraged about sick kids being denied cancer treatment, just as anyone would or should be. Due to my lack of writing skills and lack of enough time to spend here at the Café, I am very often misunderstood. I have gone back and read some of my posts and I too get a bit confused at what I wrote. It's kind of the old adage "listen to what I mean, not what I say". You get a feel for where a person is coming from if you read enough of what a person writes. As far as your statement about "Ignorant People" you are correct, you did not name a particular person but to me, that is still name calling because you were obviously refering to someone or someone's here at the Café. Sorry for going off but I prefer to keep things civil (which is a Magical feat here at the Café at times). Back on topic. I am glad that the Families of our fallen troops will be taken care of. It is just too bad that my Government had to borrow money from a charity. I find it discusting and embarrasing. Even the Politician's are suffering from the "shutdown" http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2013/1......hutdown/ What a JOKE Iven
