At first I was interested, then I saw the stacking demo on vimeo ... meh.

All we can see from the store page is illustrations on one page, and not even fully. I can't see anything deficient in those particular illustrations either. I mean, I have no interest in the book, the stacking I've seen from the guy is unimpressive at best, and Arnold's booklet is very good. Isn't that enough? There's no need to make stuff up to criticize it even further. |

@splice:
In my opinion you can see enough from that picture to evaluate the style of illustration. I know, just because the illustrations don't appeal to me doesn't mean that there aren't any people that like them. I admit that my opinion about Daniel Madison and Jeff Lianza (and their way of advertising) often leads to harsh comments, sorry about that I keep those thoughts to myself in the future. I'm glad that we agree on the quality of Arnold's booklet though. @AMcD: I'm doing good I'm focusing more on my education at the moment. Haven't practised any moves for a while. How is the Arcanum series going? That might get me started again. |

I've no liking for Madison and his ilk. The illustrations are still fine, and that style was just fine in Fulves' stuff as well. We're talking about riffle stacking, not fine art to hang on a wall.

I disagree a bit. Nice drawings, clean tables, detailed and numerous illustrations, nice layout, etc., are (TO ME) very important too.
Of course, the material taught inside is what makes the book -really- important, but a clean presentation is a serious plus. Maybe you have never paid an arm for "classic Magic presentation style" book/booklet... I mean, when you pay several hundreds for some Marlo/Fulves/(you name it) booklets and you got ****ty layouts, hardly readable text and 50 pages with no illustration, stapled, etc., well, I'm not sure you will refuse modern style books . |

Either way I'm not about to buy the thing just to see the illustrations on the other pages, so I'm not going to defend it further.
Nice design is a plus, sure. I was happily surprised at Lance's book on the Hindu shuffle in that regard. |

I've recently become semi-obsessed with riffle stacking. I'm fascinated by the systematic, formulaic approach, by the technique, by the amount of work involved. This title had caught my eye, but I've read and seen enough of Arnold's work here while lurking the past several weeks to believe he's a better resource.
This is clearly a *long*-term project. Good thing I'm a sucker for delayed gratification. |

I picked it up just because I like books and I try to grab as many books relating to gambling as possible, it hasn't arrived yet but I'll have a look through it and give you my opinion and the work. I doubt it will have anything ground breaking like Arnold's or Lance's work on stacking but I'll give it a whirl.

Did Lance publish something on stacking? I was only aware of his Hindu Shuffle book.

I suppose he's talking about the stacking section in his book...

Yes, the section on the stacking in Hindu shuffle book was the latest thing I've read that I considered ground breaking.

I've read through the booklet tonight:
Nothing new, very poorly edited. Has some decent diagrams but one would be better served going to other sources. Only real interest was a stacking & bottom deal double duke idea. |

Ah well. Sad, but predictable I guess.
I took my money (and what I saved on my home insurance, nacht) and bought yet another edition of Erdnase. Hrm, I think I have about 10 of them now. Maybe that's enough. Ahhh, who am I kidding. |
