This is a great trick. I like doing it with half a dollars in the spectators hand. When I put the coins in the spectators hands. I'll put a coin in there pocket to make it vanish there.

Thanks for the great idea of loading a coin in their pocket, Paul!
I'm gonna keep an eye out for opportunities to do that. I get really good responses with Imagination Coins. Tonight, I just put together this (as yet untested) 10 minute set. I start with Imagination Coins. When done I ask the participant to join me in exploring our imagination even further. I ask them to place the four quarters down on my close up mat (or napkin), one in each corner. I cover with four jokers and go into Matrix with a continued imagination patter. "Did you really place the quarter in that corner or did we just imagine it... When finished with matrix, I end with Sandler's Ace (the reason I'm using 4 jokers with Matrix). Or, instead of Ace, I may end with 'imagining even bigger' and stretching a quarter into a jumbo. What tricks do you all use to follow up Imagination Coins when doing a 3 or 4 trick set? Thanks - James |

I think once you do magic in someone's hands during a close-up performance, you almost invite them to become a little "grabby" from that point on. They may feel compelled to jump the gun with something later in the set. Although I do use different effects that happen "in their hands" I don't think I would use more than a couple in a set and broken up by time and genre. Ie. A card effect "in hands" a few more (both cards and coins) then end with IC. Just a thought

I've been performng this for quite a while now and I use large British Two Pound coins. There is no question that a (non-drunk) spectator can quite easily see the four coins become three in the first phase as they stack the coins. You can misdirect all you like but they'll see it. Not every time but enough for me to start getting them to close their hand straight after the stacking. I tell them to do this to ensure that I can't take one of the coins out of their hand. It makes the first reveal even more powerful.
This also helps another issue that came up in the early days - someone once accused me of "stealing" off one of the coins from her hand as I mimed the "in your imagination, take one of these coins and place it into my hand". My right hand was never closer than 2 inches from the coins yet, as far as she was concerned, that's how the first phase was done. So getting them to close their hand straight after the stacking solved that problem too. Someone mentioned that he, the magician, stacks the coins in the second phase. Why? There's nothing to worry about here and the less you touch the coins in the spectator's hand, the better. Yes, they certainly need to close their hand after giving you the s$@ll as it makes clear in the DVD and if you got them to do this in the first phase, they tend to do it without being asked in the second phase, which is nice. After months of performing this routine to very satified customers, I still haven't mastered the final steal out of the left hand as detailed by Garrett on the DVD. I just can't do it as he can. I will continue to practice - I worked on it for two hours yesterday as I was on a train by myself. Still not. I use a different but similar steal when performing the routine but I still want to achieve the proper steal one day. I envy you @MikeTheKid! For me, the BEST thing on the DVD was the constant use of the Ramsay Subtlety in all its forms. As an example, at the end of the routine Garratt opens his (dirty) right hand at the same time as he opens his empty left hand, it's just that the right hand is a tad higher than the left and, therefore, just out of sight. Brilliant! As a non-coin worker, this was a revellation to me. All in all, this is a VERY powerful routine for layman - very strong magic and I definitely recommend it for non-coin workers such as myself.

I know this great routine from my World's Greatest Magic - Exp. s***l DVD.
Does anybody know if this DVD teaches the 2 phase or the 4 phase version? I don't know the difference between the 2 versions. Watching the DVD I would say that it is the 2 phase version. But I am still in doubt because Garrett Thomas says he does not perform the 4 phase routine anymore. As the World's Greatest Magic DVD is already a little bit older it would make sense, that it is the 4 phase routine, right? Are some performance videos for both versions (2 phase and 4 phase) available, so I could compare them? Thanks, Nightcrawler |

The four phase version is on the Imagination Coins DVD.
Indeed, I gather Garrett does not perform it any more and I certainly don't bother. The extra phases do not enhance the incredible effect of the two phase rotine, IMHO.

Thank you James Fortune!
Does this performance show the 4 phase routine? Is it the one that is teached on the DVD? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAVm9tMf2zU (start watching at 1:30) That would mean that the 2 more phases are put between the "original" 2 phases, doesn't it? Nightcrawler |

> Does this performance show the 4 phase routine?
Yes, that is the four phase routine and what I don't like about it is that it puts the focus back on you and you become just another "coin juggler" whereas the two phase routine happens all in their hand and the focus is on them. > Is it the one that is teached on the DVD? Both phases are taught on the DVD but the emphasis is on the two phase routine. > That would mean that the 2 more phases are put between the "original" 2 phases, doesn't it? Yes. To the detriment of the trick, IMHO.

Wow, thank you for your really fast answer!
I'm in complete agreement with you. Furthermore the 2 additional phases make this routine look so unstructured, imho. I definitely will stay with the 2 phase version. Thank you for clarifying! Nightcrawler |

I have both the gaff and the Garrett Thomas three DVD set, where he goes over this routine.
Is there enough new materail on this DVD version to justified the $40 cost (I don't need another gaff)? Thanks. Jerry |
