"Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind"... Some way more than others. Great post, Andrew, I could not have said it better. RIP, Aldo...

I must apologise for not checking in at the The Magic Café for quite some time, but illnesses, work (during December) has severely restricted my activities recently. I feel that I am on the positive side of wellness at the moment and wish to keep improving via a variety of of things. These include diet; exercise and several other strategies. It has taken a significant event to be posting today. That event is the death of Aldo Colombini. I meet him at an Australian Magic Convention in 2004 and he has made a lasting impression on me. I did something that I very rarely do when I heard the news from Mike Norden yesteday morning, something I didn't do when my dad died in 2004, I cried. We have lost not only a great and extremely popular magician but a great man. Aldo I am all the better for knowing you. RIP my friend ... make them laugh on that great stage in the sky. You will be missed but you will NEVER be forgotten.
Take Care

Aldo was a Great Magician and a really fun guy. My partner Tom and I would run into him at conventions, Video shoots and lectures and he was always so friendly. He always referred to Tom as "my old friend".
Aldo was larger than life and full of life. He had an amazing ability to show amateur and professional Magicians alike that Magic doesn't have to be hard and that we are all there for a good time. He was a wonderful Teacher and creator of entertaining and amazing routines. We have lost one of the GREAT ones and Magic will be poorer for it. My heart goes out to Rachel who made him happy. -Mary Mowder |

It is nice to read about so many posters who have met and talked to Aldo at conventions. I too have gotten to spend a small amount of time with just him at Vancouver , Canada.
Somehow at a convention there I happen to be with him without the throng of other attendees and we just had a great conversation. The thing about Aldo was that during that time chatting he acted as if I was his number one priority right then and there and not at all in a hurry to go find others or be somewhere else. I mean I am really a nobody in magic and even surrounded by so many other talented and well known magicians he took interests in my thoughts on magic. It sounds as if others have share that same sentiment. |

I had recently seen him at a lecture he was giving with Rachel here on Long Island. He truly loved what he did, and it showed with every performance. He loved to talk "shop", and was a "larger than life character". He will be missed.

Aldo will surely be missed. If you want to help out Rachel, go to their website and buy products directly from her. By performing Aldo's material, his memory will live on.

Wow! 47...didn't know he was so young. Such a loss to us all. Good magician but an even greater man.

According to bio he was born in 1951 and would be 62 yrs old. Too young to leave us.

I had the pleasure of meeting Aldo at one of the conventions years ago, I had attended his lecture and purchased a few items from his table.
After he had completed the final spot of one of the gala shows and was in the elevator heading back to his room which was on the same floor as I. He noticed me and thanked me for buying his items and introduced himself to my wife and I. We spoke for a bit while the elevator was making its stops. Wow, I was impressed. I attended every Aldo lecture I could from that time forward and he always recognized me and took the time to say hello. He was one of the most friendly classy people I have ever met, and his brand of magic left a lasting impression on me. I still use some of his routines and ideas today. I wish the best to his family and I personally will miss this great magician.
