I've been doing magic for some time and was pretty knowledgeable until I took some time off to work on a second bachelor's degree. While doing so the Slippery Sam coin came out and I'm trying to find out exactly what it is. If someone is willing to PM me with a brief description I would much appreciate it.

The half shell gimmick has been around for a long time, it's old as the hills.
sounds like you want exposure. I'll go as far and say it's used in "Digital Dissolve" |

Dushheck's slider has been around since he started selling his Ultimate Copper and Silver transposition.
The first slider I've found in print is used as a one-shot with a c/s gaff - in Scot's Discovery or Witchcraft - set so you can show both sides of a coin cleanly then use it as a c/s in a volunteer's hand. The modern item with a rim and the action used with it dates after Hoffmann's More Magic (1900) and very likely the credit belongs to Steve Dusheck. The name Slippery Sam comes from a coin set of mated gaffs so you can make both coins change in both hands at the same time at the fingertips (his Slippery Sam Combination Set) from about 1975.

Thanks Tree and Jonathon. And no, I wasn't looking for exposure, just clarification. That's why I requested a PM. I had already surmised that it was a shell of some kind. I had never heard--for whatever reason--this particular name for the gaff.

Um, ever heard of Google? Image search on the gaff will yield results.

Yes webtech, I've heard of Google. Typical computer nerd response. Ever heard of being flippant?

That must be why I've never heard of Google, not being a computer nerd and everything. How do you get things to post twice? That's very clever.

Anyone seen a slippery Sam set offered recently? Last one I saw was before 1980. That and shell shocked silver were impressive coin items at the magic shop.

My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Just my age, I am sure. I still prefer actually taking to people face to face (dyadic communication). but, I fear, your observation is probably correct about what folks prefer -- but I think laziness enters in also.

Let me see if I have this right.... it looks like everyone is concerned about some strange looking guy's leather vest and not answering questions about where to pick up a specific product? Have I got that about right?????

Thanks Todd, I've got several of Roy's gaffs... just trying to see what others were using
Jim, Thanks for your response/comment as well, I was looking for recommendations not ****y remarks. But thanks for the Google tip, I would never have thought of that otherwise... you're amazingly intelligent. |

The leather vest is in another thread. Your wit will surely be appreciated there. Good luck in your search for a "Slipper Sam"; I would try a shoe shop then move onto the larger department stores. Mind you, he sounds like a character in a children's book, so Borders might be worth a try.
