I realise there has been a previous topic somewhere discussing it but it did not answer my questions as I am relatively new to TnR (but not card magic)
I've decided to get torn and torn too (great tricks DG) but I am getting one now and in a few months so I am unsure which to get first. Over summer I want to really to amaze people around town and in charities etc (volunteer work for medicine) so I have the opportunity to perfect and use magic to the audience. I know torn is angle sensitive but if I was to hold it close to my chest and those behind me where not paying attention could I get away with it? What are the angles like from the side? And with Torn Too is it true that light kills the trick? Without giving anything away too much is a card destoryed every time one of these two effects are performed? Thanks, -EL P.S First post

Don't have Torn Too but I can speak to Torn. Yes if you hold it close those behind you won't see the workings. However, people directly at either side will see things they shouldn't. If angles are an important consideration and you will be performing surrounded, Torn may not be the best choice, though in all other respects it's a great TnR.

Thanks Steven for the angles tip. If I do this is town I'll make sure to watch the audience positioning. Could you recommend a TnR effect? I've had my heart set on DG's effect because I think all his stuff is brilliant
Is there any torn too user's out there that could shed some light?

And Steven can torn be performed without the pieces going into your pocket say put in your mouth? And I read the ending isn't clean but I also read that you could restore the final piece when the spectator is holding the card can that be done?

I would recommend Brent Braun's Torched and Restored.

I was looking at that bulla and seen it was said to be the best flash restoration. As much as I love fire tricks would you have any piece by piece recommendations?

Torn is great... but I'll normally only do it for 1-3 people at once and I want a few feet of distance and I want them to be pretty much right in front of me.
If you're doing walk around magic... you're really not going to be able to use torn as part of a regular set (but you can bust it out if the conditions are right). torn will really blow people away if done properly... but it takes a lot of practice to make it look good and smooth. and to answer your questions: you can't use your mouth... you need to use a pocket. you don't end perfectly clean... but you can hand their card out right away. they are so focused on seeing the card that no one will really want you to prove that both of your hands are empty. so with this trick, the ending "dirty" isn't a problem whatsoever ... mainly because the card can be handed out right away and it's very easy to finger palm the stuff you don't want them to see. Torched and Restored is easy and pratical... but there are a lot of good torn and restored versions out there. I personally think that torn is the best but only if the conditions are very good. |

Good to know Adam. If torn is the best what would your second best piece by piece restoration be? Possibly one that is less angle sensitive. I'll probably just get torn because it is so good but on the off chance there is one that could be done in a busy environment like a town centre it would be good to see it first before buying torn
