Hi Guys,
I wonder if anyone here can help me out. I am looking for information on a kinesiology routine by Bruce Bernstiein published in Magick Magazine. If anyone knows anything about it or any similar routines it would be a great help. Thanks. Dave. |

Dave,,
I'm not quite sure how you are using the term kinesiology (1. study of the motion of the body: the study of the mechanics of motion with respect to human anatomy 2. alternative medicine alternative therapy: a system of muscle testing that reveals and corrects musculoskeletal imbalances and identifies food sensitivities), but for some reason Bruces great routine, The Ritual, from "Perception is Everything" comes to mind. |

Hi Bill,
Thanks for your post. Can you give me a description of "The Ritual" effect. Thanks. Dave. |

Sure, Dave, my pleasure.
A person writes down something that holds them back from achieving their goals, and he folds the paper up. Depending on the proximity of the paper to the person, they lose or gain strength in their arm. Their eyes are closed, so they do not know if the paper is far or near. There is a phase where another person holds the subject's hand and either holds the paper in their other hand or it is moved away without the subject knowing. Again, the subject's arm either loses or gains strength depending on where the paper is. I've only performed this twice. Both times the audience was very engaged and impressed and the subject was freaked out. It is so different from most mentalism. Plus it is a lot of fun to perform. Bruce states that the original source was Andruzzi's "Ring of Protection" which he later transformed into "Maskelyn's Ring" in his lecture notes "Going South With With His Secrets." Like all of Bruce's creations it is multi-layered and well constructed. Bruce's web address is: http://members.aol.com/BruceMBernstein |

Is Magick Mag issues still available somewhere?
There is a very successful motivational speaker from Scotland who uses something very similar to this. However he uses cigarettes and coffee instead of a goal written down on paper. I much prefer the one above. |

Bruce's material is always top notch. And very reasonable, too.
Here is his e-mail for further information: Bruce Bernstein <BruceMBernstein@aol.com> |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your comments especially Bill's great write-up of the effect. It sounds like a great routine, just the kind of thing I was looking for. Do any of you have any experience of performing it, and if so how did it go? Thanks. Dave Hi Guys, Sorry for bringing back up an old topic, but do any of you know a UK source for "Perception Is Everything", as all the dealers I can find that stock in are in the US? Any help would be great. Thanks. Dave |

Bill/Hypno,
The Maskelyn's Ring effect was also described in Classics. Andruzzi originally used the finger, Bernstein the whole arm (I think it is more visual and impressive). |

Masklyn's ring is in Classics, but the version published in Perception is everything is IMO a lot better. The presentation is much improved

David, I have that book but couldn't understand how to pull it off. How the audience is supposed to believe you really try to push the hand down? The instructions aren't very clear about that. You can PM meif you want.

Your best bet to get a copy of "Perception is Everything" is to contact Bruce directly. I use the Ritual regularly. Like many good effects, the performance is I the practice. The concept is there clearly as is a good beginning patter, The rest is good old fashioned Chutzpah.
Personally I wish all of the copies of this great manuscript would disappear except for mine of course (smile). |

Even in 2018, Perception is Everything is a book that any aspiring or practising mentalist should read. I have just reread it after all these years if anyone is wondering why I have opened up an almost ancient thread....dating myself I guess.
