Why do people hate David (like me)? I reckon
he is a fake. What do you think?

What do you mean by fake? Sure he uses gimmicked tricks, and employs stooges, but so do many magicians. I can't understand why so many people (especially magicians) are coming down on this guy. David Blaine is an entertainer in the true sense of the word. Just to let you know he likely doesn't give two **** about what anybody else thinks as he has made more money off of one stunt tham many of us will make in our entire lives.
P.S. I'm not offended. |

I also don't understand why people hate David. But I have my suspicions as to why. There is even a whole website devoted to hating David Blaine.
Now this may sound really weird, so don't think I'm a freak or anything, but I had a dream about David last night. In my dream, we were really good pals, and I felt like I knew this guy for real. And he was really cool and fun to know. He was really likeable. Of course it was just a silly freak dream, but it has remained in my conciousness the whole day, and it just won't go away, or at least this warm feeling won't leave. But I suspect that my dream was trying to tell me that he is really a great person to know, and so, to those who hate him, well, all I can say is: raspberries to you!

Agree with Che!
No point to drag this out, magicians (either they like him or not). Watch him again and again no matter what. The fact is we'll continue watching him in the future because we all envy him, and we know he's good enough to teach us something. You know as well as me that you also learned something new from his specials, right? And I'm not taking gimmicked tricks, levitations or stooges... Jack.

I think one reason magicians don't like him is because in his book "Mysterious Stranger" he claims not to use trick items/objects/decks although obviously this is not true.
I'd just like to point out that I have no problem with him saying this, especially since this book is aimed at the general public. |

Sure it's aimed at the general public, but we know darned good and well that magicians will be grabbing this thing and reading it on the sly.
Seems to me that a lot of magicians are saying on the outside that Blaine's stuff is simple, but inside they're wondering, "How in the heck did he do such and such?" IMHO

On the sly? Not me! I bought it and danced with child-like-glee! Yes, yes, I too noticed when he was full of it, but most magicians are a little full of it, I think. Comes with the job.
And got to agree with Che on why this thread even needed to be started. Oh, how unique, someone declaring to the world their dislike for David Blaine. Just what our profession needs. I think someone just wanted to start their first post. Good for you. Now have a doughnut. |

I'm suprised this thread has lasted as long as it has. I also noticed by Che's quote of M.S. Magic that he came back and sugar coated it. Still tastes like **** to me!!!!!!

OK, this topic already has several existing threads here at the Café. We don’t need another talking about the same thing. Find and contribute to one of the others. Frankly, I doubt if anything new will be added.
