Cosentino first performed this in 2011
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_yvebrtmYU Then Spencer Horsman – 2012 So far the same escape has been done three different countries, same concept, after the first time it looses cred. It would be really good if those doing the escape would wear the jacket correctly. Not arm over arm, but under and tighter. And especially not loose like Mark Correia in his video escaping Parkinson's challenge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFS197Eod9g The SJ is not hard to get out of and especially for those using a Bonza jacket, there is absolutely no reason to put it on loose unless there is a lack of understanding, poor mentoring or teaching. Keep it serious and respect the art.

If they're doing it so badly, good for you as I'm sure you're doing it really well. I'd like to see your video performing this or something similar as I always want to learn from the best.

When the same act is featured in a talent show, it does nothing to seperate one performer from another. The only thing different was the country. Youtube and other media allows us to see all and instantly. In Houdini's day, he claimed a stunt to be unique and new and played each town on the tour. By the time the newspaper got the next city, Houdini had moved on.
Singer's don't all sing the same song to show who sings best. All my escapes are on Super 8.

Let's look closer at Ian's singer analogy...
Yes, you will hear the same song sung by more than one singer, especially the old favourites. This is akin to many performers doing the strait jacket escape. BUT If you watch any of the TV shows like Idol etc where singers are being judged - how many times do you hear commments like: "You need to make the song your own..." "Bring something new to the song ..." "Make us believe you mean this when you sing it ..." etc. The same goes for escapes - do we really want to see performers doing the same old tired routines - of course not. So maybe 3 performances of the suspended SJ with the jaws isn't the same old tired routine, but after the first time, why do it again without changing it or bringing something significantly new to the piece? Just because a performer has the technical skills to do this routine, doesn't mean they SHOULD do it. (I'm amazed that this rig has travelled so far around the world - is it rented out? How has it not been defined as stealing intellectual property?) It is very difficult to make an escape original and fresh or new - but shouldn't that be the goal? I don't necessarily have the answer about how to create something truly original - but until I can come up with something I think is different or personalised enough - I just have to wait, and keep working on it. I liked Darcy's framing, but it could have been applied to many different escapes, including a more original one. I will say this - one of the members who posts on this forum has performed a suspended SJ escape with a really nice twist that could easily have been applied to this routine - and it would have made it much better. This just proves that with some creativity and a pinch of genius, it is possible to elevate a performance above the mundane. Just a pity he's taken all the good ideas |

According to the manufacturers website, Spencer Horsman was the first to purchase the 'Jaws of death', however Coz was the first to perform it.
