Friends,
My wife and I are planning to visit New Orleans in mid September and are looking for a nice place to stay for five nights. Groupon has some deals on this site: http://www.groupon.com/getaways?utm_sour......-orleans I'm wondering if any of you have any recommendations from this list? We've been to New Orleans once before back in the early nineties on business and we stayed at a Doubletree downtown. We had to take taxis if I remember correctly to get most places, but this time we'll have our own car and will be able to get around fairly easily I hope, parking opportunities not withstanding. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Interests are good restaurants (We were at Antoine's the last time and we were disappointed), sights, magic, local hot spots and what have you. Commander's Palace is one of the definite restaurant stops, so I need four more recommendations. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

I could not sign in to the groupon list, but If you are coming to New Orleans, first call and check with Joe At the Avenue Inn. I don't know prices but the owner and his wife are magicians, and they always welcome magicians. It is worth the call. (Joe can also fill you in with everything that is happening here magic or otherwise.)
And the Building and location are BEAUTIFUL. http://www.avenueinnbb.com/ For VERY nice dinners: http://www.pelicanclub.com/ http://www.galatoires.com/home http://www.arnaudsrestaurant.com/ http://gwfins.com/ Breakfast or lunch: http://www.oceanagrill.com/ I can also recommend items off the menu at each of the above.

There are no bad restaurants in New Orleans but, if you have a car, drive up I-55 north to Manchac and eat the thin fried catfish and/or the blue crab at Middendorf's!
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...
