I got chance to spend some time with Stephen in Newcastle and see these in action. Great stuff. Stephen has so many variations and there are eye-popping effects to go along with them. If you liked anything in the trailer then I doubt you would be disappointed. Plus Stephen is a super-generous guy.

I'm pretty surprised at all of these reactions. I wasn't that impressed with the trailer - like a few have hinted at above, it looks fairly obvious what is going on. I can't believe people are saying they don't see anything.

Also, there are 10 variant of The Butterfly Pass, which are you unique to the move itself and could not be achieved using the EZ Pass. E.g. Guardian Shift (passing the entire deck while retaining the top and bottom card in place). |

I'm a massive pass addict, the more esoteric ones such as George McBrides 'Twist Shift' all the way to Lennart Greens 'Float pass' . And this was an instant welcome addition to my sleight arsenal. I've been fortunate to know Stephen for a long time, I haven't seen the product or have no financial interest in the product.
First time I seen the move, I made him repeat the pass lots of times from lots of different angles! And couldn't see a thing! As a colour change looks like trick photography! The real treat and progression, come from the effects and applications Stephen has created for this move. Some of them are stunning, and in most cases offer something unique I for one will be purchasing the project, as a massive move monkey (I know I'm not alone) I can't wait to start toying with it! Kind regards Daniel chard |

Butterfly Pass Project by Stephen Leathwaite
Is just such a great DVD (2 DVDs) what you will be learning is a method and a card pass to get the card where you want it. Without anybody can see how you did it and what you did. Like the trailer shows is also what the Butterfly Pass Project is. It is that good. You get 2 DVDs with 3 hours of explanation (detailed explanation) and 15 card tricks. The explanation is very good, there a scenes with close ups and step by step training. Camera angles good, nothing is left out. Close ups are very welcome and add a more detailed sight of how it works and what to do and when. Each handling is being detailed and thoroughly explained and how to perform it. After the explanation there is a sort of how to practice part, first you do the handling slowly then after few tries it will go faster and faster. It is a good way to practice and learn the Butterfly Pass. I still find new possibilities each day for the Butterfly Pass and where to use it with, there are so many card tricks where you can use the Butterfly Pass with. For instance ACAAN combine it whit Butterfly Pass and the explanation of Stephen Leathwaite (included on the DVDs) are excellent. Ambitious Card trick so many ways to do it now, but with the Butterfly Pass it is now mine ending of ambitious card trick, it is that powerful that I use it as the last part of the ambitious card. It will take a bit of practice to master it, but it is worth it. It took me 3 weeks to learn it few hours a day, I am a perfectionist so I wanted it to go smooth and fast that’s why it took me 3 weeks. But now I can perform it, without someone noticing what I did. It is not complicated or difficult to learn once you how to do it. Then just practice and practice and you’ve done it yourself. For anyone who is in card magic this should be a great tool or method to do magic better and unseen. Because for the spectator this is real magic, no gimmick just pure and simple magic in a beautiful (Butterfly) way ... |

Great angles on this pass, and Leathwaite gives you so many variations (some definitely trickier than others) that the potential applications are astounding. The instruction is about as clear as clear can be, with at speed demos, slowed down versions from over the shoulder, pausing at key points, freeze frames with arrows and script for particularly important points, etc. I especially love the fan pass, which really isn't all that hard to do but just looks nothing like what you would expect a pass to be.
When watching the original trailer demos, the only drawback I noticed is that the initial replacement of the cards sometimes appeared a bit carefully gripped, or a little deliberate, for want of better words, but it's really not necessary to do it in that manner. You could just apparently drop the top packet on freely (using standard techniques), and then still go right into the rest of the butterfly pass. Anyway, this is one I'm re-watching slowly with the pause button, taking careful notes in the archival notebook, because there are so many ideas that will undoubtedly prove useful in all sorts of effects in the future. This is a project worth studying carefully and slowly, paying attention to the countless details that Leathwaite has already worked out and chosen to share. Very grateful that he did so.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.
