Haven't seen this qn being answered in this thread yet. That's why wanted to ask that if extortion can be done using plastic currencies? I think the ad copy mentioned something abt using paper bills.

IT might theoretically be possible, but it would make the gimmick clumsy, thicker and not as effective. Australia has some of the coolest currency in the world... but it is the absolute worst for magic!! It's made of plastic, they're different sizes, they're different COLOURS and there is a see through window in them!! I plan on making this up in US$ anyway. |

With plastic, the bill tends to have a natural spring to it which will make the gimmick seems much thicker. The gimmick may work with plastic bill but you would have to find a way to crease the bill to keep them flat. You can always do a receipt to lottery or anything in that similar manner. Hope this helps. Thanks!

Money by Lloyd should work fine.
"The New York Papers," Mark Twain once said,"have long known that no large question is ever really settled until I have been consulted; it is the way they feel about it, and they show it by always sending to me when they get uneasy. "

I got this today, and I've made the gimmick up:
I really like this trick. Some magicians (especially gimmick lovers like me) will already have spare parts of the required materials at home and will be able to make more of them. You get the materials for one gimmick made. If you chose to take the gimmick apart, the parts are reusable. The gimmick has no mechanical parts, so you won't need to worry about anything breaking or needing replacement. The gimmick will require you to cut up one lower denomination note and one higher denomination note. another high denomination note is needed as the actual gimmicked bill (not cut up). In addition to this, you'll need another 1 and $20 to use during the routine. I made my gimmick so I didn't need to cut up any notes, and It still looks quite realistic. This effect is best done as a transposition, in my opinion. Bill Breaker is a better alternative if you just want a single bill change (less fuss). Also, it is highly recommended that you use US money for this trick. It is possible with other country denominations (if your bills are the same sizes, paper and have no windows), but it becomes clumsier and easier to flash. The only downside about this effect is the noise made when executing the change. However, in a real life situation it will most likely not be heard, and a click or snap can be used to distract from the noise of the change. Regarding the thickness of the bill: In its completed state (change executed, and bill folded in half ), the gimmick well and truly looks like a single bill. During the routine, you will need to practice to make sure you handle the bill in a fluid manner as not to arouse suspicion. 9/10 from me. well done Patrick. |

The reason I built it on 1 & 20 instead of 1 & 5 is so you have an option to change 1 to 20 as an additional effect if you choose to. As far as the noise, you can also reduce it but offsetting the gimmick. In real life situation, it should not be an issue at all. In fact, the gimmick you are receiving is the thinnest you will ever find. They were actually got custom made and cannot be bought anywhere. Again, thanks for supporting and I hope you have tons of fun with it. Cheers! -Patrick

Got this and really like it. It's a lot easier to make up than Money... way easier, and, the gimmick will last forever, unlike money which will wear out. Sorry to keep comparing the two, but I bought extortion after money. Both great effects.
I will say that Extortion method is a lot cleaner in terms of appearance, and the bill looks clean with no dodgey splits... though it will be tricky making it up with UK bills... you have to display the first bill on its side. What I've actually done is combined this method with MONEY to create the best possible version. I think a lot of you, especially if have non-US currency should look at purchasing both this and Money and combinding the two!

I have both Extortion and Money but haven't had time to make up the gimmicks yet - just watched the DVDs. Money looked easier to make but maybe I should go with Extortion first. I'm hoping to try to do a US $1 to a new plastic Canadian $5 but it may be easier to do it the opposite way around as the US $1 will fold and unfold better.

This has been one of my favorite effects this year. I've been using this at most of my walk around gigs, since it's been released and so far it has been receiving great reactions. Here is a quick performance of Patrick Kun's Extortion.

I'd be interested to see how other people have modified Extortion to work in the UK. If you've used currency, which denominations have you used? Have you used currency and something else made of paper, like a blank lotto form?
