magician will amaze and awe a crowd at the University of Central Florida all for a four-legged cause. Comedic magician Jimmy Rook will headline a showcase of the UCF Police Department’s services at a fundraiser for the agency’s K-9 fund as it prepares to add a fourth police dog to the force. Displays, meet and greets and photo opportunities will start in front of the Cape Florida Ballroom of the Student Union at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13. Doors to the ballroom will open at 7 p.m., and the magic and illusion show will start at 7:30 p.m. Free parking will be available in Garage D. Rook, who has performed at the Mystic Dunes Resort in Kissimmee, at the Improv Comedy Club and on “America’s Got Talent,” has been entertaining audiences for more than 15 years. All funds raised through ticket sales, raffles and other donation opportunities will support UCF Police’s K-9 fund. As UCF’s enrollment and campus grow, so must the police department in order to keep UCF a safe place for students, employees and visitors, organizers say. The event will help in covering the expense of the dog, plus training and equipment and a car for its trainer. The new dog will be able to track suspects, search buildings and areas and sniff for narcotics, all important jobs that keep the campus safe and secure. The trainer for the soon-to-be-purchased dog will be introduced to the community at the event. All ticket-buyers also can submit a suggested name for the new dog, and the selected name will be announced during the show. The new dog will join the department in December. The general admission tickets cost $5 for UCF students and alumni and $10 for all others. Tickets are available at the police department, which is at 3610 Libra Drive, or online for an extra fee through Eventbrite and http://www.jimmyrookmagic.com/. All ticket purchasers can submit a name suggestion for the new dog through Eventbrite or can drop off their suggested name at the event. Special guests at the event will include police dogs from other local agencies, Knightro and the personalities from XL 106.7. Raffle items will include gear from WWE, UCF Athletics, UCF Police, Wonderworks, the Wizardz Magic Theater, local restaurants and more. UCF criminal justice students also will sell paw print cookies and chocolate handcuffs at the door with all proceeds benefiting UCFPD. |
