Not sure how well he was known here, but Bobby Bernard, who passed away on Monday (10th.) aged 83 was very well known in England as a superb close-up worker and teacher. Never one to mince his words, he gave great advice and was one of the last magical 'characters' of the 20th. Century. He will be missed.

Very sad news. I spent a fair bit of time in Bobby's company at International Magic. A great magician and teacher, and one of the people who instilled in me the desire to learn magic from the classics: he reached up to the book shelf in the shop, pulled down a copy of Bobo, and The Art of Close Up Magic Volume 1, and told me to read these, and forget about whatever it was I'd had in mind to buy that day!

A fantastic man and great supporter of magic. Twice when we were performing in London at trade shows he treated us like royalty. Took us to the Magic Circle, showed us around, etc. What a great friend and host. We will miss him greatly.

Only saw this now. Bobbby deeply impressed me when I was 13 and met him at a magic convention in Vienna. That was in 1994. A great mentor, teacher who was very generous with hisk knowledge. I still perform one or two things he taught me, and certainly influenced my thinking about magic a lot.
