Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has any information in the form of a catalogue and a date when these locks were for sale?

In the 1981 I made my first gimmicked padlock which operate the same way. The idea was new to me but several years latter I read about a lock with the same function but never saw any.

In 2009 EA, collector and magician John Bushey showed me this Squire padlock. It was first time I had ever actually seen one and would like to know when this model of padlock was available, when they stopped producing them and when the gimmicked version was available. Requesting scans of any paperwork showing these locks.

thank you

Ian

HI Ian

Ive had one of these locks for 30 years. I believe I bought mine in 1982?
They were made by David Deval....I believe I bought mine from Prynce Wheeler
Hope that helps

I had one of David's, but gave it to his daughter recently. Can't tell you when he started making them.

I don't believe this is a DeVal item, he worked on other models 550 and 660 Squire locks, classic lever locks shape padlocks. Never read or heard of him talking about this one.

Not one of mine, Ian. I recall my dad selling these in his lock shop in the 1960's. There were 12 on a shop counter display unit, I think. I'm still hunting for a catalogue entry.

Hi Mick, cheers. It is the time period I think for the padlocks. I cannot find any reworking marks on the lock and wonder if they were factory made/modified, or if someone on the inside made them.

Thanks Mike, I cannot dispute that evidence. So there are two in the world, all I need now is date in print to be sure.

Ian, I finally came across the catalogue I was looking for! From a hardware suplier in Willenhall, Abel Fletcher & Sons Limited, and it's from 1957. I've scanned just the padlock, as I haven't figured out how to get a full size page on her of readable quality, so I'll send that to you by email.

Ian: I have a page from my DeVal catalog (sales flyers) -- advertising this pin-tumbler Squire gaffed padlock from him. Do you desire it?
