Hi there!
Just wanted to let everyone know that this is now available for rent or purchase on ITunes.. I haven't seen it yet.. But it is next in my queue! I will pass on my thoughts on it after seeing it (which will undoubtedly be very positive from what I've heard).. Curious what others think of it! |

Having watched it twice now I see why Jay won a Tony Award for The Two and Only. It's an entertaining journey of Jay's entrance into Ventriloquism.

Anyways.. My verdict at this point (24 minutes in) - so far, SO good!!! This is an incredible piece of theatre! Can't wait to see the rest!!! |

Just finished watching it..
I really enjoyed it. I watched it with my wife and we both agreed that it was an awesome theatrical presentation. Neither of us could stand the monkey character...But perhaps it reads better in person (?).. Also, some of his actual puppets seemed perhaps a little bit sub-par.. They didn't really seem to do his talent justice.. That is a subjective statement and personal opinion that my wife also shared independently.. All in all - it was brilliant! It was like a two hour TED talk on vent presented by a true master! If you haven't seen it - you should! He was very deserving of the Tony to be sure! |

Here is a review I posted on Amazon for the DVD:
Jay Johnson is one of the true masters of the art of ventriloquism. Yes, the art of ventriloquism. Just as not every painter is an artist, few ventriloquists attain a level of mastery that would qualify them as artists in the from. Jay Johnson certainly does--and then some. This DVD faithfully captures the Tony-award winning show as it was on Broadway. In it we learn about Jay's show business career, discover some of the history of ventriloquism and learn the story of Jay and his mentor, Art Sieving. There are laughs aplenty and some very touching moments. You will surprise yourself with tears when Jay has to explain a difficult show business choice to his first puppet. And I challenge you to keep a dry eye when Jay describes his last meeting with his mentor's puppet. Through all shine Jay's artistry, his superb technique, his humor and, most important, his humanity. You may remember him from the hit show "Soap," but you will never forget him in "Two and Only." |

Very well said Bob. Jay's artistry is indeed unique and compelling, and THE TWO AND ONLY is a powerful testament to the fact that ventriloquism can be so much more than a comedy 'double act' (and he happens to be great at THAT aspect of the art as well). He also has a well honed dramatic flair that so many vents lack.
Jay is one of the greats, and certainly one of the nicest people in the business, too.
