My son was recently given a 16 card 'trick' pack. It consists of 10 normal cards, one normal Ace of spades, and 4 gaffed(is that the right word?) cards. Picture attached.
The following is the description (in Hong Kong English!) provided for playing this trick. "How to play this amazing “The Underground” magic~ Firstly, you have to write a prediction in full view of the spectators and either give it to a spectator to hold or fold it and place it on the table. Remember, you will never touch it again! And it can indeed be signed if you so wish, there is no switch. That's right no switch or funny billet moves! And then you take a deck of cards out and select a card in an extremely fair manner, no cuts or forces, they are just asked to name a number less than 16 as we only have 16 cards in the deck. Then the cards are dealt face up onto the table until we reach their chosen number. When we reach this number, that card is placed face down away from the others, the prediction is opened and read out aloud! Then the card is turned over by the spectator and it matches the prediction, which can be examined as can the cards, there is nothing to find. This is one hell of a killer trick, if you want to perform one card trick this year make sure it is this one. And it can be repeated with a different card every time and catch people's eyes. But you have to remember that the prediction is written before you touch your deck of cards. it is written before you ask the spectator anything at all! This is a simple but fantastic magic, no magnets, no Sticky stuff, no card forces, no peeking at all, no billet switches, prediction is in full view all the time, so what are you waiting for, just have it and make your own magic!" I can't understand these so-called instructions. It's as if the 'instructions' are for some other deck or trick so I'm hoping someone can explain just how to use this pack. That would be most appreciated. Click here to view attached image. |

Ok just came over from the new to magic section to see your re-posting and have to say the instructions you quoted didn't add much. I could engineer that trick with normal cards so I'm not sure what the gaffs add to the equation.
On the Final Aces I recommended in the new to magic section I can assure you it does in fact use them at least the original Bro Hamman approach which I have referenced out of "The Secrets of Brother John Hamman by Richard Kaufman". The only card you are missing from that picture is a number card with the index of the ace of spades and you would have all the cards needed to perform his trick. Let me think on it for awhile and I'll get back to you. Magically Aus |

Thanks Aus. (I must be Aus2??). I've had a closer look at that Youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vev_mBud5hQ and I was wrong (I didn't watch closely enough first time). The full face of the aces is never revealed; the lower right corner is always covered either with another card or a thumb - except for the ace of spades.
My pack is indeed strange with 6 'aces', only one of which is genuine (AS), the other 5 being gaffed. I further note that there are 2 x 2D indices among the gaffs. Cheers |
