"Anything Deck" is one of those effects people always mention when touting the merits of the AOA books. I'm curious, however, how many of you actually have made the deck and performed it?
To those who have, how was it received? And do you believe Harris' soon to be released "Deep Astonishment" will truly take the effect to new heights?

Well, I've never performed it, but one of my fellow magicians was fried by it when another magi did it. A small group of working magicians in Hollywood are making their own so it seems to have some value in astonishment.

Don't know anything about the new version, but I have performed the old one to wonderfull effect.
It's a special occasion trick, not an all-the-time trick, but for those special occasions, it rocks!

I agree, I made myself a deck and performed it a couple of times. I remember I almost gave this woman a heart attack when I revealed the word to her. Her jaw dropped and she had the exact same look of astonishment that Harris explains in his AOA books. I'm definitely getting the new version just to see how its handled differently. I might prefer it over the old way.

Yes I made a deck up and performed it a couple of times. I agree totally that it is a special occassion kind of trick, as the deck is heavily gaffed and does not bear any kind of scrutiny. Nonetheless, it is a truly wonderful effect that leaves people dumbfounded.

The new effect uses red cards that spell out the word and a blue deck (or vice-versa). I think if nothing else, this will take a lot of heat of the deck. Sounds like double backers.

The anything deck is absolute quality. I can't wait to check out the new version as the original hurts people badly.

"Sounds like double backers." ???:) Could just be a different coloured deck to start with apart from the unlettered cards and you don't bother spreading. Time will tell. Paul. |

Even tho' I strongly recommend the purchase of AOA *all three volumnes*, you don't need them to get the "Anything Deck" Routine.
Harris published it on the web for free as a promotional item for the books. It can be freely *and legally* obtained here. http://littleegyptmagic.com/pass0297.htm Enjoy.

I perform this trick, and when given the proper (or as it were, improper)theater, can be extremely disturbing.
Paul Harris makes an impassioned disclaimer in the AOA books about this. I understood why, when I performed it for a group, and I had chosen a particular girl to "think of a meaningful word", and she had picked the name of a deceased friend. She nearly hyperventilated when I revealed the name. If I had wanted to totally abuse my already-contrived position, I could have placed my hand on her chest, and whispered "it's going to be alright" like some unnamed charlatans have done on network tv. My presentation is a "demonstration" of the influence of mediums, and how one card reader could virtually control the decisions of others--by thus explaining that there is absolutely nothing magical about what they are about to see, but rather put themselves in the postion of a worried peasant with mallable faith--this preempts the disaster without ruining the effect, in my book.
